Where did you get the score? Was it original? It sounded like you used something from Metal Gear Solid...is that right?

It was shareware music from off of my filmschool's ftp site. They pay the licensing and students get to downlaod and use for free....

7-29-06 Update. This DVX short film was sent and will be shown in over 10 Holocaust Museum Visitor Centers around the US. The Virginia and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial are among the well-known museums to accept a free DVD copy to air daily for their visitors at the visitor centers. I'm sending out more copies to some museums in England and Austria this week.

I thought it was pretty good. It is one of the very few cases were the story was beyond the execution, but that's the side I'm always happy to see. If you can't write or get good stories, movie mean nothing.

Now, that said there are a few things I'd like to suggest as a filmmaker. These are all my direct opinions, so don't take any offense.

The opening low note drone was terrible. It sounded like screaming "we're making a scary movie, look mom scary music!". Let a scene get scary, and then add music in the heighten emotions, not start them.

I've never been a fan of handheld camera work in period work, although that may just be my opinion. It just seems to make it more opbvious that a camera is there which is fine for modern day movies like Crash, Collateral, or United 93, but I don't think it works well in this case.

Your choice to use natural light is fine, but since DV makes it hard to get a good looking image already, reflectors should've at least been used so we could see who is who. (Film is more forgiving, but even Saving Private Ryan used reflectors in is to help see)

It was good though. These comments are less obvious and deeper than most reviews I write. Good job and keep it up.

I would've rather had the father see his daughter in mid stroke with the axe and stop, than to just notice when he's looking around. It would've said more about how much he cares about her to stop what he was doing to hug her.

The transition with the rope around their wrists was great.

When the father gets up with the gun behind him, I think it would've worked better to show him in C.U. looking at his daughter, then show the gun put to his head, back to C.U., hear the gun click, and then show him start to get up so that the emotion of making the sacrafice for his daugher would be shown. It felt more logical than emotional the way it played out for me.

Would've been better to cut to the girl running at the gunshot to emphasize the sacrafice he made for her even more. You jumped out of th story at the point of highest interest.
