Ok everyone let me have it, this is my first music video for a independent label out of South Carolina. I finally got the file size down enough to view. I have another video shoot tommorrow so let me know what I did wrong and some things I could do next time to make my second music video better. Shot in 24p mode 3 man crew dvx100 one reflector. I also noticed the words are not syncing up with the audio after converting file. http://www.sharkle.com/video/95124/ Just updated link the vocal track should be synced properly with video now..

hey vic try to be a little more animated with camera. More pan, tilts, dollies and such. Some frames with you in car rolling down the street filming talent would add motion. Also in post Rap videos require alot of fast clips, stay away from focusing on one frame for to long. Nice song by the way!

Thanks Debo, I used a dolly on both of the park scenes and just bought a new hand crane. The company really loved the video for only $500. I actually tried to really chop up the video but some locations I only recorded parts of the song instead of the entire song. So I know next time to record a full verse at each location for more footage to work with...but your advice well recieved. Thanks

getting the exposure right will make all the difference. A lot of people (rapper included) had white shirts which blended with the sky, so make sure they all wear darker clothing next time...

and I'm curious, what did you spend the $500 on?

First, I like the song but the video just doesn't seem interesting. Just looks like a day at the park, parking lot and some night shots with a couple leg humping chicas. I think the guys face would be something to frame, he seems animated. I would have to listen to the lyrics and follow his story with your story. I am gonna watch it again and respond to what I get the second time.

More of the sudden zoom stuff...but jerk that zoom to the beat or maybe you could do it in post?
choreograph the crowd...use the rapper to do that?
Use some Magic Bullet or some thing cause the coloring is video.
The best shots in there are the better looking cars and the close up on the guys arm with the tatoo.
Really like the song and if you were more prepared creatively then I bet your skills would be showcased and they would tip you on your efforts, maybe a 40 ounce? :)

Thanks for the critique and good advice .. When I looked at the footage those overexposed shots were very aggrevating.. but I know now the next time not to have any white shirts in the frame or on the artist or extras... thanks for advice anything else that you guys see please let me know.

the song had a pretty sick beat, it almost seemed like the pace/style of the video didnt match to the speed of the song. As others have said, do more quick zoom's etc. The colours were nice, but the thing that bugged me the most was how it was very out of sync.

Yeah I have to upload that file again in another format for the audio so that it is not out of sync. But thanks for the feedback. When I heard the song i said to myself this has to be a very faced paced video. Well I wanted to shoot a few more locations but the artist disappeared for about 4 hours and reappeared right before the sun was about to go down. So the rest of the pick up shots were screwed. So i had to work with what I had shot and I only had 1 hour left of sunlight to shoot before the club location. Well once again this is my first video and also my first time picking up the DVX100. I purchased Barrys DVX Book and DVD so I'm still learning.

sounds like the artist bounced to smoke some purp. lol. Oh well, its all good. Not your fault if they went to blaze ;)

Yeah your probably right I did want the video to move alot faster as some have suggested. I have about another week before I order a pretty good starter lighting kit. And also a good boom mic. My second video will be done tommorrow scheduled to run pretty much all day. So I will take everyone advice into consideration. Thanks a bunch fellas I'm going to try and reupload this file to get the words in sync with the artist. Anymore critiques please shoot away.

I liked the song the video for five hundred is actually good I agree try to re edit the song to the beat and you have something to be proud on your reel. And the lip sync is out of sync.

What's up with that?

I t wasn't out of sync before I uploaded the video but when I checked after the compression it was out of sync ... don't what the problem is...

The most important step is the first one in the right direction and you have gone there and done that ...all of the comments so far have been to the point but the real issue is to continue to learn by doing and getting paid to do so no matter how small the monitary reward you pay one way or the other the issue is did you get value for your lessons learned the answer is yes keep up the good work..VL

Thanks a bunch for the encouragement Vic Longtin.. and everyone else that added something. I'm about to post a new video shortly.

As has been said make you pans alot quicker, some of those shots looked great, if only they were moving faster. And were you trying to pan to the beat? I don't think that really worked.

As for the zoom, never use zoom if you dont have to, It just looks really unproffesional. If you pay attention its very rarely used in movies, and when it is, its usually for a reason. What I would sugest instead, is shooting it a couple times from different distances, and even with some different pans maybe, and cut between them to the beat, its going to look alot more proffesional.

Otherwise I think you did a pretty good job, I've certainly seen worse.

Your editing is TERRIBLE! Because you cut like every 2 bars, which is WAAAAAY too long for a music video. Cut like 30x more than you do! What are you editing with, man? WMM?

Don't even TRY to blame the artist. You have enough footage to cut and chop this video into something GREAT. You had a car with spinners and not once did you shoot them. You had chains, you had grills, you had girls, and you didn't do ANYTHING but put the camera on a tripd and say 'action'. Man...Make more cuts. If I were you, I'd edit the whole video over again.
