Best Mic for travel.

I am traveling to South America but the location sound isn't hugely important but I want it clean enough and reduce the wind noise as much as possible. What XLR mic set up would you suggest in the $500-700 range?

I've had terrific luck with the Sennheiser ME66/K6, with a good shock mount and rycote fuzzy you can't go wrong. Takes a battery too for those times you are without phantom power.

post in audio - you'll get more responses. For on-camera, I'd go with at4073a and softie. If that's a little too much - i'd go Rode NTG-2 with softie.

Just noticed you said $500 to $700. The 4073a is a great mic by all accounts (I actually have the Rode, but look forward to upgrading to the 4073a fairly soon.)

I'll second filmstock... I have used the ME66 extensively for the last 8 years... Great mic for the price. The AA battery that powers it will get you roughly 150 hrs of run time. I have never had one go bad yet.
