It supports DV, DVCPRO50, DVCPRO HD 1080i and 720p inputs via firewire.

All info is now on a small website. Go to site...

Thanks jigg, I was starting to think there was no interest in this type of tool, so thanks for the confidence boost :-)

It was moved after i posted.

Btw, the scaling in the app is kinda strange. I can make the picture widescreen on my pb, even though the picture from the camera is only 4:3. Are you planning on making another version? Or maybe open sourcing the code?

The scaling issue is a problem I wish I could fix. I haven't yet figured it out, but no doubt it involves some proper code writing which I have managed to mostly avoid up till now!

What I was able to do was make the left and right sides stay attached to the window, but the top and bottom can be cropped off if you scale too far, so I just drag out the window and maintain a small black area at the top and bottom.

If you're keen to have a go at advancing the app I am more than happy to send you the Xcode project and files, PM me if you want!

Have you updated the link with 1.0.2? I just downloaded the file, and it says that it is 1.0.1 ....

Also, Is this app just for viewing purposes, or does it actually record as well?? (I will have to play with it in the morning.)

Sorry about that, I was using this small upload app called Filechute and it told me it had deleted the old file, but actually it was still there! Should work now for 1.0.2.

The app is purely a very simple live video preview of any firewire input. There are NO recording abilities or much else for that matter. The only 'features' are a live video flip and flop to correct for the 35mm cine adapters like the M2 and a de-saturate or black and white slider.

Added Input Format menu.
Added DVCPRO HD presets.
Added Help.

Please read the Help first as is describes the limitations of this simple tool. Don't expect too much! Use the same link above.

FlipFlop v1.0.5 posted.

Added Peaking control.
Added Centre CrossHair marker option.
Added SafeArea marker option.
Added EagleEye centre zoom option.
Added shortcut keys.

Have not tested any of the NTSC DV, HD 1080i60 or 720p60 presets with the correct input as I don't have any NTSC kit.
Please read Help for new shortcut keys and other notes.

Hi Adam,
No unfortunately not. Once the firewire signal is in use by one app/window no other app will be able to use it. Glad you like it! Feature requests? (easy ones though :-)

Mark: d00d, this program rocks. i havent tried it with the HVX /M2 yet, but i was messing with my built in isight with it. I would gladly pay for this program if you wanted to sell it :)

A feature request i would have though is select the input . Example: if i have my HVX hooked via firewire, and the isight, i dont want them to conflict which one i want it to show, so being able to select which one to use would be nice!

(unless this is already there and i missed it. only fiddled for a minute or two)

thanks dude. you rock!

Thanks for the kind words Cynic. With regard to the iSight and a FW connected camera conflicting, this won't happen; the camera connected over firewire should have priority if you have it turned on when you choose your input type in FlipFlop.

This is a great little app...

I just tested it with my Mac Powerbook G4 17". It works in 60i, but in any 720p setting the image is garbled... In 60i (taking a live camera feed), the image is stuttery, but it's great to see an HD image on the Powerbook. Do you know why it would be stuttery? Is it a limitation of the G4 processor on the laptop? Maybe this would be good enough to take on a shoot in order to check focus, etc.

If I set it to 720 24pn (in the camera), the image on the Powerbook is green. Is there a way you could modify it to accept this signal? I would imaging a 720p signal might be less stuttery too because it is a smaller throughput than 1080 60i.

I also have found that in "DVCPRO50" mode (NTSC), the flip button seems to rotate the image about 5 degrees instead of flipping it. Maybe that is a small bug. It flips it correctly in DV mode.

I'm really glad you developed this...thanks for sharing it with us.
