I just purchased a Panasonic 16:9 Anamorphic lens adapter for my DVX 100 and/or DVX 100A (I have both)

Has anyone used this before and what type of experience/results did you get.

The write ups I have read state with this lens you can blow up the video to 35mm film to be broadcast in movie theaters and look real as well as convert up to HD.

Problem is it comes with no instructions, etc. It was sold and shipping as if the user knows what they are buying and how to use it.

I have the DVX book and DVD but nothing goes into settings best used for the lens, etc...

Additionally, what are the best settings and methond for editing in Premiere Pro 1.5

Thanks for your inputs

I bought the anamorphic adapter about a year ago and I used it on one production and i never used it again. Here are some personal opinions about it.

-As expected, the footage looks good. And noticably better with anamorpic. It's much crisper.
-Focusing sucks because you're forced to view a squeezed image and you can't focu by eye. You MUST measure, or risk a ruined shot. My first production with this was a nightmare because we had a tiny crew and everytime there was a new shot, I'd have to measure it and go find the book and look up the focus number. It was a pain in the ass.
-I would not reccommend using this for a short film or small project. When you need to shoot and just get it done, and film-out or some commercial output are not your highest priority, then there's no point in the hassle, but if you're making a feature or any project with commercial intention, then go for the adapter. You'll spend a lot more time setting up, but real films are still spending 10 times what you'll spend just for one shot.

I haven't done it myself, but if you want to have an easier time with the anamorphic lens, then by a 16:9 magnifier for your LCD. You'll have an easier time eyeing focus. Then cross reference it with the book. After a while, you may not even need the book. You'll know how it should look.

*I personally don't own the 16:9 magnifier so I can't speak too much of the nature of it, but I'm sure it helps.

JUST USE A 16:9 MONITOR. Why are people so averse to focus in day to day situations. The lens may be easy to do incorrect focus...... but even with your standard DVX lens what are you doing? Auto focus? If so you need to change your process.
