hey guys,

I am looking at getting the HVX200 next season (kinda hoping they release an HVX200a before then), but with the release of the new JVC GY-HD110U, I need to do the research again.
I had ruled out the previous JVC HD100 camera as it just wasn't up to par on several levels...

Anyway - any of you guys know what the deal is with this new JVC? what have they changed?

thnx

I just found this info:
(source - AVSforum.com)
anyone else have thoughts on this?

In providing our customers with enhancements to our ProHD Professional High Definition product line, JVC is pleased to announce the release of the GY-HD110U, the latest version of our HD100 series of ProHD camcorders.

"As the ProHD product line progresses, JVC will work to continually improve the performance of our products and bring to market requested functionalities aimed to benefit our customers," states Craig Yanagi, National Marketing Manager, Creation Products.

With the same design as the GY-HD100U, the GY-HD110U implements a number of additional features requested by our growing circle of producers and cinematographers and now added to the multiple-award winning GY-HD100U:

· Professional design and compact form factor
· Three 1/3-inch native high definition CCDs
· Output in multiple HD formats including 1080i
· HDV and DV compatible

The introductory suggested list pricing for the GY-HD110U will be $6,295.00, which is identical to the preceding model. Shipment of the GY-HD110U is scheduled to begin in mid July 2006.

Isn't there a new JVC model that has HD-SDI out?
This is the Bomb - Uncompressed HD (or better, actually captured through Cineform or Sheer lossless codecs)
This type of footage is Truly Amazing, if you haven't seen it,
(but it means that until a portable solution comes out, you are teathered to a computer.)
depends on your work flow, but as an investment, the camera will be here for awhile.
my 2 cents

The GY-HD250 records true 1280 x 720 progressive at 60 frames per second thanks to a new advanced codec that provides ultra efficient compression without visible motion artifacts. It has built-in genlock capability, component and HD-SDI output, with professional connectors mounted on a magnesium die cast chassis. The GY-HD250U also features the choice of several interchangeable lenses, enhanced cinema gamma, external time code synchronization, BNC connectors, built-in mount for a 14.4V professional battery, and the patented focus assist feature.

List is expected to be $9k without lens. Lens will probably range from $1000-1300 for the the 16x5.5 that is currently standard to something higher for the 18x4.2 HD Fujinon.

Thanks David,
So it's a direct competition for the Canon XL-H1,
I wonder why it's more expensive ... Maybe Color and True Progressive...

the biggest reason the H1 is so expensive is 1. it does uncompressed 1080 out, thats 1.485 Gbps out (compare to the HVX's DVCPro HD codec which is 100Mbps) of course this also means you need a very expensive solution to be able to capture this raw footage.

it will also record externaly to HDCAM, and DVCPro HD, but its selling point is that: "uncompressed" 1080/60i out through HD-SDI (adding this kind of port to the HVX would make it a few thousand more expensive)

Overall I believe that the HVX fits a nice roll between the HL1 (which to me feels like more like a low budget HD studio solution) and the HDV cameras that are available.

The H1 certainly has some features which the HVX cannot have while mantaining its price bracket. But by the same token, the features that it does offer it offers for a great money/quality ratio.

Looks like a nice set of upgrades for an already good camera, but I think we'll be sticking with our HVX for a long time to come. The only thing that has caused me real lust is that new Sony 350.

As for the Canon. I think its great, but I can't see us humping a Powermac down the Coquille River to record that HD-SDI signal anytime soon.

We love the HVX200 because of its size and form factor and how it hooks up to our Tortlerig.

We're definitely hooked on our P2 stuff. I never want to do tape capture to FCP again! :)

Still, I think the JVC is a super camera head, but I got a chance to see the previous model with the upgraded lens, and I would have to say I would have to get that upgraded lens if I was ever to want this camera.

I hope nobody gets us confused Flash Beaver :) (that's okay, I need to change my pic anyway)

But yeah, the new JVC's look very tempting. I'm still a little more partial to the HVX200 myself, but I'm going to wait and see what happens by next NAB.

If you want an hd100 i'd stick with the old model so long as the anton baur kit is being offered. most people would rather have a and hd100 with a free battery than the hd110 and the stock, throwaway battery. the improvements are really marginal with the 110.

Nah, I don't think there'll be any confusion. But I do love that little pic of yours, where is it from?!

Our little beaver is an original piece we had an excellent childrens book illustrator create for our company trademark. We fell in love with him at first site, and named him Flash. hehe

As for the JVC, yes it was very tempting to us too. But really I look back at some of the HDV test footage we shot and then the material from the HVX200 and I am very very glad we went to the HVX200.

The HDV footage was beautiful when the shot was locked down, but any movement pans, big jumping fish and outher activity just fell apart. That was just our direct personal experience with it, and others may see different.

But if I could get the HVX in the JVX form factor, I would be in hogs**t heaven!

The little guy in my avatar is Twitchy from the CGI film "Hoodwinked"

http://www.hoodwinkedthemovie.com/

I used him as my avatar because in the movie he talks about wide angle and telephoto lenses and my family said that was just like me. But the movie's gotten a bit less relevant now so I may as well change it to something else. Maybe I'll just put my pic on there or something. :)

In my opinion, I wish JVC just ofeered a firmware upgrade or a paid upgrade service to take the HD100 upto the HD110 and just sell HD200 and 250.

There is to many versions of the same cam. The difference between the HD100 and HD110 is not severe. The only feature the HD110 has I want is the DNR.
