When: Wednesday, July 19th at 7pm
Where: 2727 Mariposa Street, 2nd Floor (http://www.bavc.org/meet/contact/)
What:
7-8pm: Sam Edwards' M2 Demo
8-9pm: Scene files in the wild

We'll also fit in a brief discussion on what we want to cover at a future meeting.

If you have a copy of either of Barry Green's books, please bring them to the meeting.

If you have a SD Cards, feel free to bring it to the meeting to get a copy of the scene files.

See you there.

Yes, it's free. BAVC is really great for donating the use of their facility. Many thanks to Dillon who arranges this.

Sorry. I should have given more of an explanation.

M2 refers to the adapter sold by Redrock Micro to achieve a shallow depth of field. You can read more about it here:
http://www.redrockmicro.com/micro35.html
Works on DVX and HVX.

Scene files are for Gamma settings, frame rates, etc. There will be some overlap between a DVX and HVX settings. I don't know if the DVX uses as SD card or not. It would be good to hear from anyone with experience on settings for both.

Hey, I made it and damn it was a GREAT meeting! Tons of info, the demo on how to configure and set up the M2 will save me about a week in setup time (I'm supposed to get my M2 this week!), and basically, good times all around. Thanks for making it happen!

How about we talk Spec-Comm into doing a demo of the Cineporter next time?

Neuro: Yes, I have started to track a list. You are now on it. Anyone else can just PM me with their address to get future notices of user group events.

I'll setup a majordomo so folks can subscribe and unsubscribe to the list.

My recommendation is that we set up a zero-cost HVX bootcamp, to be held on a Saturday or Sunday. Morning for tutorial and afternoon for vendor demonstrations. What do you think?

I just wanted to confirm that I bought a Nikon 85mm f1.4 on eBay for $400. It's the fully manual version, not the auto-focus, which goes for $700-800. Now I'm hunting for the 55mm f1.2... don't bid against me!

Yeah, a local film production equipment co-op would be a great idea. Here's how I think it could work:

1) You lend your equipment (basic setup is HVX200, cards, hard drive, M2) for a number of days, and you get back credits for those days. So if you need to do a three camera shoot for ten days, you'd need to lend your equipment for 20 days.

2) We'll need to assign some moot cash value for certain kinds of equipment. Like, for example, suppose I have a Sennheiser wireless microphone system and am looking for a steadicam system... not having to buy or rent one is an ideal kind of thing. We simply assign some sort of equivalent value for certain items. But we stick with major items only.

3) I think we could also pool DP services as well.

4) I've contacted Charles Whelan insurance to inquire about production insurance. He supposedly helps insure productions in the Bay Area.

5) Also, I'm thinking that we might insure against anyone flaking out. Like for example, some guy borrows, but is unable to meet his obligations to lend back his equipment for some reason. Then, a cash amount is available through insurance to pay for rental equipment to make up for the deficit.

This would save a heck of a lot of money when principal photography on our various projects start up!

I like this 85mm portrait lens so much that I'm going to buy an AF version. So if anyone wants to take this manual lens off my hands, contact me. You can have it for what I bought it for... $420. Let me know soon, because I'm going to auction it off at eBay in a couple of weeks.

So what's the next meeting about? I'm pretty busy this week, so I probably won't be able to make it anyway, but wondering...

It's gonna be free-form. No Brevis35 demo. No Cineporter. No line on Barry's book from Panasonic yet. Perhaps DVC Rack, depending. It's whatever folks bring to the meeting.

We're definitely hoping to get the low down on the Firestore failure that one SF user had mentioned.
