HVX and Marshall R70 Handheld solution?

Hi, I'm doing a bunch of Real Estate video in Florida in the next two weeks and I'm trying to figure out a really good handheld solution for the HVX where I can use my Marshall as well, but I can't fit my huge battery on the back because it makes it too heavy. I need a portable solution. Please help!

Im guessing hes doing virtual walkthrough type dealies for the realtor?

Tell us what exactly you will be filming, interiors, exteriors, landscape of the properties? Static shots or walkthroughs? all of the above?

My bad... I miss understood. I would say, however, that the weight of the HVX and Marshall aren't that bad. After all, shooters have been carrying around dockable Beta SP units for a long time (thankfully not me)... and the HVX/Marshall combination is a lot lighter than that.

A suggestion might be to look at the DVRIGPRO as an option. Good quality workmanship... plenty of control of the camera... and good after the sale service.

all of the above.

Cynic821, I have no problem with the Marshall and HVX alone. It's when I add a battery to power the Marshall that we start to have problems. It's far too heavy to carry around. I also have a Glidecam 4000 and Smooth Shooter as well.

How about going with an alternative battery source. You could use Zacuto's battery plate... attach it to a belt or something- than power your camera and your Marshall off an Anton Bauer or V-mount battery. This would take the weight off your shoulder and put it elsewhere.

The battery I have is pretty similar to an Anton Bauer. It's a 90Wh V-Mount. And we are wanting to get the Zacuto support system. What parts exactly would I need to get to connect the battery plate to a belt?

I recommend using a Fig Rig with the optional clamp.

Also, a Bescor NMH-65A 14.4V NiMH. You can attach this to your belt.

Comes with a nice auto charger to prevent overcharging.

It's surprisingly compact as well - about the height and width of a 1st/2nd gen iPod, but about 2 inches think. Would clip easily to waist/belt or a clamp and a loop.

And finally, get a 4-pin XLR style power extender cable.

The power cable that comes with the monitor is a bit short when you're trying to run the line to the AC connector on the back of the Marshall monitor.

Now, I wouldn't say this is "light," but it is definitely "lighter" and works really well for what you described. You'll get about 5 straight hours of monitor power with that Bescor battery. Plus muscles. :)

I'm with DC on this one. He turned me on to the same set-up -- which works great. And the batteries not that heavy. DC's just trying to lower your expectations. ;-)

Fig Rig looks really interesting. Although, I've read lots of reports that it doesn't work that great. Than I read other reports of people liking it. I already have a great steadycam. Would this replace it or are the uses different enough to make it another helpful piece of equipment in the arsenal?

Well, I like the Fig Rig. It's not a replacement for a true camera stabilizer but it does have its place. It is steadier than handheld, plus it has a really wide turning radius and the ability to snag instant dutch angles. Just another tool for your shoots. :)

Okay, I think we're going with the fig rig. So I noticed that on B&H the remote they have is sony and canon only. What remote do I need to get for the HVX?

I like DC's remote (VariZoom). Really nice. And the Foxi is really cool too -- although you can never use it with anything but the build in lens.

Now, if only DC would stop changing his avatar. I'm getting avatar whiplash. ;-)

You're welcome! :)

Now maybe I'll go off to ponder changing my avatar again.
