RoweCine Dolly kits now for sale!

Will do that Neil. I was too lazy to post on eBay so the doly is still available.

I'll make sure to post here when the dolly is sold.

..just to update anyone who might be waiting for the platforms. weve changed/added some things after consideration and experimentation, and it right now it looks like itll be close to the end of summer before they are ready to ship. and again, they will be availabe seperately at a lower cost than if purchased fully asseblmed with wheels and handle. if you have any questions, feel free to post them here or PM me

Hey Neil,

Just spent a lot of the night reading through all 33 pages of this thread, learned a lot. Your Christmas offer to add two wheels to each truck making the 32 wheel kit a 40 wheel kit, well, it made me want that. Any chance of that offer happening again next Christmas? Failing that, a custom order perhaps. I really like the look of these wheels and all the great feedback you've gotten. 40 wheels is probably overkill, but that's the way I like it. I want to know for sure it'll hold up under anything I throw on the deck--camera, DP, AC, director, an actor or two if I want to rip off Spike Lee...and still smooth as silk.

Second question. Will the deck you're going to be selling have sideboards (diving boards)? The dollies I've worked with in the past have typically had them and I've always found that the ability to add extra space comes in handy. The problem here is that the 4' rails would have to be modified to allow the connectors (in the simplest incarnation, a round pipe through a square pipe of the appropriate size, with enough length to hold it) under the deck, a few holes which could damage structural integrity. The solution might be to put that assembly over the top, but that's another bump on your dolly to trip over...better to have as flat a surface as possible. If I were buying the wheel kit and making my own deck, I'd connect over the top, but I thought maybe you'd put some thought into sideboards in your design.

I'll try and post a drawing or two to better illustrate what I'm talking about later. Again, the product looks great.

HappyGobo,

Your insane. I cant believe you actually read through it all. :) anyhow, our christmas agenda.. if any isnt planned yet, but custom orders are no problem. ive been meaning to add a space for that on the order page. as far as the rails, we can do any custom lengths under 4' for the same cost as either a 4' or 1' setup. for two solid 2' and under rails its the same cost as a 1' setup , and for 2' through 4' its the same cost as a 4' kit.
as far as adding on wheels, we can certainly do that as well although at this time we will not make ones with less wheels. it just degrades performance and were not about selling things that we dont think will perform well.

so, no problem on the custom order with 40 wheels, just PM me and we'll get you a price, of course its based on the same scale as the standard orders are as far as price per wheels plus added shipping weight and any additional fabrication costs factored in. although i think youd be suprised at how mouch weight a 32 wheel kit can actually securly and smoothly transport. two riders and a crane + support equipment would be just fine. .. heres where a current 32 wheel kit owner could chime in on the crazy things theyve done.

as far as the side decks on the dolly, I know exactly what you are reffering to, and we've certainly given it alot of thought as to whether the decks will support them or not. at this time weve decied to just focus on the basic decks and then see where the demand goes from there. I think its an excellent optional addition to any dolly, but the question is whether or not the consumer group agrees, and it can be done well for a reasonable ending price point. one thing ive certainly looked into is having side decks which are not meant to support large amounts of weight but could hold .. say 100 lbs or so. the extra room would allow for light or moderately heavy equipment to ride along on the side/front/back without the operator tripping/stepping on it. The design for those is rather simple and elegant. easy to install for room ..and remove to go through doorways or other tighter spaces, and can be a seperatly sold accessory without comprimising the integrity of a basic deck. the weight limit was also determined due to the fact that the entire basic dolly, although nice and hefty, would likely tip if you set say .. 150+ lbs sticking out on one side and did not have a balanced load. in the case of a truck-like cinema dolly .. 300 lbs would be no problem because the dolly itself weighs in like a fork lift. anyhow its definitely being seriously considered, and im hopeing will go through. its really just a matter of how much cost is involved in making every deck ready for the accessory, and if the sales of those accessories will justify those costs. again though, custom orders are likely going to be an option either way, or perhaps a different deck that comes with the option vs one that does not, and cannot accept the option.

Neil,

if I were to order a 4' 24 wheel kit and get it shipped up to Canada. How quick do you figure you could have it out the door?

Thx

About your excellent dolly, I have some questions:

1) On the platform, there are the stop for fix my tripod?
2) Can I order more rail length (for example, 8' instead of 4')?
3) Have you curved rails?

Thx.

After reading through all 33 pages as mentioned above, I can tell you that 1) All Neil sells at this time are the wheels and dolly handle. The deck should be out by the end of this summer. Until then you have to get your own cut at a lumber yard or hardware store. You could rig a tie point on the center of the deck you make and on the bottom of your tripod and string a bungie cord, as someone else on these boards described. 2) the 4' rail refers not to dolly track, but to the piece of metal the dolly wheels are attached to. Having a support that runs the full length of the dolly enhances structrual stability and makes the kit easier to put together. 3) the dolly is only designed for straight track. If there were enough demand for it and enough sales of the current merch, then curved track (and a dolly that can use it) might be made. As it is, you can get a similar effect with a simple pan during the move, or a crane if you've got one.

That's what's up as far as I understand things, Neil might say different.

..actually that was said good enough for me .. time is not an asset which i can afford to spend typing all day :)

Glen Hatsumi,

a kit of any size ordered tommorow (tuesday) would be out the door sometime this week ..likely thursday or friday, but possibly as early as wednesday.

Hi Neil. just finished reading all 34 pages as well. i have a question. By the way thank you so much to take the time for us. in 2 weeks i'm gonna buy your dolly cause it look likes the real deal. i've tried to make one with PVC ( i can't find any coupler to put in them. everyone tell me that it dosen't exist so i put some wood in it.) i put 2 rollerblade at each corner and let me tell you that shake so bad. i feel each bump on my PVC. At the end of each PVC and feel the bump to. is it gonna be the same trouble with yours,i'm sure not but i'm tired to put a lot of money into a dolly that never work. what is the best way ? PVC of Metal Pipe? is it easier to find coupler for metal cause in Reno depot or home depot in canada they have nothing for metal pipe or PVC joiner. i hope i'm not confusing you :) so PIPE of PVC , best joiner and best way to get steady without bump. thank you

bigshineyspoon,

i sent you a PM regarding your questions. basically you can use either type of track with our kits. it doesnt matter as it will work great on both. as for connectors we ship some for PVC with the kits, but pro tracks come with thier own, or you can purchase off the shelf splices for a DYI metal track. thanks for the interest and happy shooting!

Neil: I was recommended to chekc out your dolly and it seems very affordable and i am more than interested in it. I want the dolly , a platform and the handle. How much for all 3, and im confused about the piping. It says 4inch or 1inch. How am i supposed to know which is what i want? which is better?

i have that same exact question. i need it to work with a curved track for a shoot coming up. but will still buy if it doesnt

cynic821,

thats actually 4 foot or 1 foot for the options. Q5 on our FAQ on our temp site attempts to clarify the difference here:

http://www.rowecine.com/rowecinefaq.htm

basically, for a dolly kit you can order 4 little one foot trucks with wheels on them ..or 2 long four foot trucks with wheels on each end. the picture on the order page is the 2 long four foot trucks.
this should show you what the difference is. we ALMOST ALWAYS suggest the 4' trucks for standard doorway dolly applications.

the kits do not ride curved track yet, as we have not really had much request for it yet.

let me know if theres anything else, and happy shooting!

the pic doesnt work. i guess im just confused as to why there is a 1 foot option and a 4 foot option. i guess we will talk tomorrow

check your PM budday! :)

I just placed my order with you! We just got our rental dolly as well. Too bad we were on such short notice then we coulda saved on the rental, but the price wasnt too bad on it.
