Only movie I couldnt stomach to finish...

Hey Hairy Lime,
I just saw "Battle in Heaven" wanted to share my 2 cents:
-Yes main actress is hot, and she knows how to give good oral sex... I am baffled and cant help thinking how do you convince yourself to kneel before a guy and a whole crew , then perform felaltio that probably required a dozen of times repeating...Art?
-Director says 'he likes showing sex naturally rather than glossy Hollywood approach'
But he fails to explain how showing real sex adds up to the story...
I came up to a conclusion abut this fella, and that is:
"USING SEX FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVACATION AND COMMERCIAL ADVANTAGE"
Well there is nothing wrong with that, as long as you dont try to sell yourself as the next Antonioni, or Tarkovsky...
I dont need to see Japon again after this observation, I agree he is a talented filmmaker but needs to develop his own style and ethics...

How about everything uwe boll has done
Never heard of him, so i did some search from Wikipedia:
Uwe Boll has been voted "Worst Director of All Time" by many users on IMDb, and many critics agree
Boll's comment on the IMDb:
"...guys writing all the Internet bullshit about me and sitting in their houses where mommy pays for everything."
Some quatations from the director:
"They were better than actors. We looked for local Romanian actresses, but there they are all from the theater and act very broadly. For 150 euros a piece the whores would be naked and do as they were told. It was better." (in an interview for Bloodrayne: The Movie talking about why he chose to use prostitutes instead of actual actresses)
"Postal will be so politically incorrect and harsh, it's like a mirror to American society, and I don't think the movie will be well received by everybody. For example, Osama Bin Laden will be one of the lead characters—I think that shows the mood of the movie."

Definately. Worst film ever made (Close). They oughta be strung up by their Buster Browns.

I agree on Ocean's 12 but let us not forget: Lost In Space and for me From Dusk Till Dawn. FDTD was such a disappointment, especially when it started out with so much potential then degenerated into a steaming pile of excrement.

Lost in Space and Batman and Robin are perfectly awful...but I at least managed to stay on till the end.

Edit:
With Ocean's Twelve, I actually ducked out and saw The Incredibles for a second time instead.

It was so poo pooing horrendous that I woulda (had the Disney-Pixar film not been showing next door) gladly searched for a marathon screening of Ed Wood flicks in its stead. That would have been endlessly less painful.

... again ... how do you know the other collaborators (actors DP) were uncomfortable with it??????????

BTS ... or psychich powers :) ?

And even if they were not comfortable, how do you know that they weren't willingly uncomfortable. Not uncommon for an actor to be uncomfortable being nude on stage or on camera, especially the first time, for example, but still strongly wan't to do that part of their job out of a sense of professionalism and duty to or excitment about making the momenet work and not regret having done it even though it may have been difficult at the time.

Just curious if this is your judgement about how you think the actos and DP felt or if you saw them behaving uncomfortable in the BTS or saying they felt uncomfortable.

BTS ... or psychich powers ?
A little bit of both... ;)
how do you know that they weren't willingly uncomfortable.
All actors were non-professionals, and most of the actors in the movie were from rural parts of Mexico, so although i agree with what you are saying about professional actors, i do not think such subtle conscious tricks are applicable to actors in Japon..(with the exception of protaganist, i think he was a well educated painter)

It is my judgment. When you watch too many movies (and being a a small time filmmaker helps too ;)) that sense comes to you... In the scene where protaganist bending over the old lady(85 yo) to take her from the back, you do not need to have psychics powers to see how camera is undecisive to where to look, where to focus, actors are the same, you clearly see scene isnt blocked, they are back and forth looking stupified... Well, that is where i stopped, so i cant be sure of my observations without watching the movie again...
I decided not to do though... Not worthed...

Wait wait wait--

Let me get this straight: The actors have real sex on set? In both of these movies?

Edit: I read the IMDB reviews and I can't stop laughing.

How did you end up watching either of these movies?

Provocation I'll buy, which I think is a perfectly reasonable rationale for any art film. Commerical advantage I don't buy, because these films would find a wider audience if he made different choices. He currently directs films that find almost no audience outside festivals and cineastes.

Vincent Gallo gets a real blowjob from Chloe Sevigny in BROWN BUNNY. Still didn't save that film.

I read about JAPON in a film magazine or online and was intrigued by the symbolism described. Some of the imagery sounded Bunuel-like and I'm a huge fan of his surrealist style so I thought I'd check it out.

Not in both. In JAPON it is not real yet disturbing, but in BATTLE IN HEAVEN it is for real but pointless. (Sex scene in BATTLE IN HEAVEN is done well, a full 360 degree rotating shot starting in an apartment revealing Mexico city mingled with poor dwellings and modern highrise buildings as upper class Ana screwing the laymen beast Marcus' brains out) Alas, Mexico is divided by deep class structure and i thought director made that wonderful camera move to point this. yet again, watching the interview, host asked the director if his intention on that scene was to show the class division? Poor director didnt even understand the question, no straight answer...

I constantly search &watch foreign new director's movies, partly i am tired of formula Hollywood, partly hobby, partly you name it ;)

I disagree. This movie would sink into obscurity without the supposed titillation of his "real sex" candy. This is the kinda crap that gives art films a bad name.

Ok, I get it dude, the alienation of the classes, the militaristic underpinning of society, and the cowardice of love etc... Just next time, save me from watching an hour and a half of a boring (visually uninteresting) character do nothing, while you under pin the story visually with nothing but your own pretension.

I felt sorry for the young actress in this. Not for the fact she had to s**k the protagonist's c**k for real, but for the fact she had to do it in such a bad movie.

LMFAO. Dude, that's just bad.

William Morris Agency dropped Chloë Sevigny after THE BROWN BUNNY. I won't judge the movie, but I won't watch it either.

Thanks for letting me know. Someone might've told me to check it out and I would have, had I not read this thread. Saved.

 You're welcome.

Now if only there was a similar kind gent who told me to miss Batman & Robin. I know, I know, the bat nipples were a big give away. :)

Cheers.

Worst movie: XXX

So I guess you missed the brilliance of Tokyo Drift ?

If you want to see a movie that deals with some of the same themes of Battle... except much better, then you could watch Marcel Carne's "Children of Paradise" I recently watched it and it is superb (if vastly different genre wise)

"I've made 23 movies and I'd give them all up to have done Children of Paradise..."
Francois Truffaut
They no longer make movies such caliber for sure...I agree similar themes floats around in both movies, on very different planes.
Let me summarise the message of that movie:
Love is so simple... :)
Whereas the message of Battle in Heaven:
Love?Keep s***ing my c**k...(No kidding, here is the last scene: Ana is on her knees again, camera is POV of standing Marcus. She takes a short break, looks up in the camera and says "I love you too Marcus" and then she continues performing deep eehmm.. {art}...fade to black)
