Thanks Jarred. I was just looking at this bag and trying to decide what to go with for the HVX200. Now I only need to decide between this backpack and their production bag. Which bag do you use for your HVX200?

i use the production bag but the old very big one (that you cant get anymore) cause i have rails and mattebox and all that fun stuff that i like not needing to dissasemble. apart from the big one, i have 2 of the new smaller production bags that will fit the hvx without rods etc, but i use those for other support stuff like filters etc.

The thing about backpacks is that if you ever need to travel, like airports etc, they kick ass. the prodution bags get heavy real quick and you always need a cart. Plus you dont need to check it in.

so for studio stuff.. i would choose a production bag.

for location stuff or for travelling, or hiking or anything where you gotta carry your camera for more than 50 feet from the car, i woudl choose backpack.

Thanks. You helped confirm my decision. I will be ordering one soon!:)

Great site by the way. I am new, but loving it!

I've been thinking about this one since you posted it around the time of NAB. Just trying to find a way to fit it into the budget with everything else I want...:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Jarred,
From the pictures you've posted it's difficult to judge the amount of space. Is it possible to store a laptop in addition to the HVX?

Jarred,
It looks like there is no room for an matte box on the camera.
Is there enough pocket space for a disassembled MB or would you need to buy extra pockets?

Also, if you were taking a setup like this on a pack trip, could you get by with some kind of mono pole support? Or, what would be the lightest way to get camera support with a backpack setup?

Looks like a pretty tight fit.
Currently I use my old Lowe Photo trekker and Super Photo trekker for long hikes out in the field.
The Super Photo trekker I can leave the rails and mattebox on and basically take everything but the kitchen sink in that puppy. :)

Course, after loading it for bear on a hike to Delicate Arch in Arches NP, I decided that taking everything is not always a good idea. :)

I'd like to hear some feedback from anyone that picks this up. I would be interested in something like this for quick hikes out into the boonies.

I am taking a week long trip in the Sierra Nevadas this September and taking along the HVX. I would like to come up with some kind of rig you could hike with reasonably. That might require a full size expedition backpack or maybe this Cinebag rig would do. Also, I love my Cartoni Focus setup but don't want to carry the weight on a long distance hike.

this isnt a bag to bring the whole kit along as Kevin states.. this is a camera, batteries and some junk kinda bag. This is the kinda bag when your out shooting something in the field and you dont need rails and follow focus.

If I were you I'd go with a full size expedition backpack and customize it with foam rubber. Its actually pretty easy if you get a block of it from a foam and fabric place. They also have spray on foam glue so you can adhere chunks of it to make the perfect fit. Electric steak knifes work great for cutting and shaping.

PS: Foam comes in a wide range of densities - go with the denser - it weighs a bit more and cost more but gives added protection from more "pointed" impacts.

I would recommend a Rolling Pelican Case, i just took a trip with the HVX and there was no way i was checking it in, but with the Pelican Case, i was assured that i could carry on and not worry about it being jossled by other travelers when they cram crap into the over head bin.

Some guys guitar was getting crushed in a soft case he had and was complaining. I took my Pelican Case out and laughed at the hippie and left :)

Joking aside, if i could find a way to turn the pelican into a somewhat comfortable backpack to free my hands when hiking up hills and what not, it would be the perfect solution. BUt rolling it around the airport and tying my Macbook Pro bag to it was perfect for the flight.

Cynic, you had me there for a minute and my back was already aching!

I would like to see one of the new bags up close here in LA. Maybe FilmTools?
That's where I picked up my first CineBag.

Have any of you all seen the Crumpler Backpacks?

http://www.crumplerbags.com/Cart/index.php?catId=22

I have a friend that has the "outpose" that he uses for is Canon 20d and lenses + laptop.
I asked him if I could try my HVX and accessories in it casue I looked like a really nice bag.

I tell ya guys it was really nice! My HVX and P2 store + chargers fit really well and felt very secure. It looks like it may have more room than the cinebags. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind a cinebang but I thought you all might want to take a look at them as well.

I don't know anything about the Crumpler bags, but those product descriptions are hilarious!

This is just luxury, sweetie, I can see the Pyramids from the top balcony. And the one they’re building in our front yard. For me, is it, sweetie, for when I die? That’s lovely . . . What did you just stir into my drink? Oh
