I need to make 40 vhs copies of this project i shot for a client. They refuse to pay for it to be transferred at a place so i have to do it out of my own pocket. What is the best way for me to do this. It's about 2 hours on a dvd and i need to make 40 copies on vhs.

let me contact the pastor at my church. we did this for a dvd for the vistitors a while back. ill get you a link. it was dirt cheap and they were great to us.

They want you to foot the bill for the copies? Or they don't trust a transfer/duplication house to make the copies? Man 40 VHS copies, if you don't have the equipment to do it can be VERY time consuming. I am hoping they are not making you make the copies because if that were the case I would just have a duplication house do it, pay for it yourself, and don't tell your client that that is how you did it. It isn't worth your time and money (wear and tear, other work you could be doing, mental stability, etc.) to do this on your own. Trust me, I've done many graduations (pre DVD days) where I did all the VHS dubbing myself using 3 maybe 4 VTR's if my friends weren't using them. And even then I was picky about what VTR's I used and made sure I cleaned all the heads myself.

But if it is the latter, They want you to pay for it, then DAMN! What did you do to make them ask for that?

if anyone knows of a good dvd to vhs tape copier company that is cheap, i would appreciate it. i may just set up about 5 vcr's to each other and record it from a dvd player

Check the yellow pages. Go local because if you ship it out, it takes longer and you still have to pay for shipping. And what if the out of town place does a bad job? or makes a small mistake? You have to pack it all up, ship it, they redo everything, ship it... Or you could just do 5 VCR thing. That'll take a while at 2 hours each that's 8 hours for 40 tapes. But if you have 8 hours to spare, and really nice vcr's (remember to clean the heads). Oh also if you do the VCR hook up route, how are you going to hook up all 5 VTR's to 1 DVD player and still keep the signal clean? Will you have 5 dvd players for each VCR? Daisy chaining VCR's to each other is fine until the signal reaches the 2nd then 3rd then 4th then 5th there is noise introduced by each deck which degrades the signal significantly. By the 5th deck you'll have a really dirty signal. Think of it as a gen loss kind of affect.

It's so awkward to find out that some person "types" can be found in any nationality.... What does it mean he doesn't want to pay??
Okay it is a small amount but only if you have 4 and more VHS. I've done many dubs with 4 video recorders and it saves you a lot of time... but with one....
If you are going to do it alone then charge about 10$ per copy. Now since this gives us a total of (10 * 40) 400$... then go out and buy him a good VHS player-recorder to do it himself! He will even get some bucks back.

Correct you will need a rack that distributes the signal, not to mention black burst generators for good results

Won't pay for duplication? What sort of a BS client is that? Not one i'd want for sure!

Tell them your duplication rate - compare with other local duplicators. If they don't want to pay, tell them to go elswhere.

Ditto what Mikko said. Do you have a contract with them? Did it include duplication? If not, I would give them the deliverable I promised along with an invoice.
