Beautiful work my friend! The M2 truly creates a filmic look without a doubt.

Were you hand-held or steady cam for most of those shots?

Don't know what to say, Kholl- the direct d/l works fine for me.

I was using sticks for most of the shots, Mr. Blonde. There were three handheld (with grip handles) shots in the teaser, and two dolly setups.

Watched whatever I could in the browser. Looks really great. I'll go back over everything in this thread to see what you used.

Only wish the rest of the footage would load.

Dude... Sorry to hijack your thread--

I couldn't figure out WHY I heard voices talking in my head when I watched your teaser. Specifically Sigourney Weaver's--

Isn't that the music from M. Night's "The Village"?

I let your trailer play in the background the fourth time around and I can totally hear the monologue by the leads.

Yep, that's James Newton Howard's score. Note that this isn't an 'official' trailer- just something I threw together for the forum. Am I to assume the quciktime downloaded correctly?

Yeah. I stopped retrying it then looked and the darned thing finished. It was weird.

Kinda like how you look for a girlfriend and you can never find one. Then when you have one, they all want you... just doesn't make sense.

Thanks for sharing. GREAT footage.

When's the final product ready for release?

That was some amazing footage dcarstens, you should be very proud, nice balanced colours, good contrast. Probably the best hvx clip i've seen.(by the way you spelt desert wrong on your topic..)

LOL. You Spelled "spelled" wrong, Yas.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

By spelt he must have been refering to the cereal, spelt flakes..

spelt - Definition:

hardy wheat: a hardy variety of wheat of inferior quality, sometimes grown in mountainous regions. Latin name Triticum spelta.

So you're saying that what he really ment to say was: "(by the way you cereal, spelt flakes desert wrong on your topic..)" ?

I know, I'm an idiot :)

Thanks for the compliment, and yes, I did be spelt dersert wrong. Good thing I'm a DP and not the scripty!

I guess I'll be the lone decenting voice.

As far as your images go, I absolutly love them. Your lighting is simply fantastic. Those desert shots in particular blow me away, especially since you didn't use CC (I've also found that you can produce some really great results by just messing with the color temperature and chroma phase).

As for the M2 however, I must say that these shots actually make a case against it for me. As I sifted through them, I kept thinking that they felt rather soft to me. The only ones that I didn't feel this way with were the last two and then I noticed that those were the stock lense. I'm not a resulotion whore by any stretch of the imagination but the loss of detail here is simply unacceptible to me. Of course, shallow depth of field has never been something I HAVE to have since I kind of like the composition options that a deeper focus allows. Ultimatly, the M2 just makes things too soft for my taste.

Still, the stuff looks REALLY good. Some of the best I've seen here. And I disagree with people who claim it looks really filmish because of the DoF. It looks filmish because it is very well lit and fairly well composed. It looks good because you've got talent, not because of an extra piece of glass.

I do understand your concerns of the softness david, but doing it in post?
I know how to do it, but its a hack of time=money, and honestly i dont think its the same result...!?

For once, I agree with David. How many feature films or TV series use DOF constantly. It's only used to illustrate a point. But with the advent of M2, we leave this thing on, through out our project to make it more filmic. There has to be a right balance.

PS. I love the desret shots. Yes! I spelled desert wrong!

Don't be afraid to tell Americans how to speak and spell... I'm a brit living in isolation here in Florida... but I'm bad at spelling and typing, but certainly love to correct in conversation...

Anyway, Loved the Footie. Such nice comforting shots... great contrast on the others. Like the nighttime bedroom stuff and that Joshua Tree Timelapse is the MONEY.... Thanks for showing and looks great.

What did you try to concentrate upon in your lighting set-ups, cam set-ups, and overall image quality?

What did you try and avoid or minimize?

Thanks again... Looks great!
