ALPHABET - DVX Music Video

Hello everybody,

this is my first post although I've been following the forum for quite some time and have found it incredibly helpful so far.

I have been a proud and happy DVX user for a couple of years now and have mainly shot stuff for TV, so I could say that this is the first "artistic" use I make of the camera.
Anyway, to cut things short, here is a music video I shot about a month ago for an Italian band called Microsuite, the song is called Alphabet.
Opinions, criticism, etc etc etc are more than welcome.
I hope you enjoy this.

MICROSUITE'S ALPHABET

Thanks to everybody for taking the time to watch this.

How did you get that mist going? Please share how you did it!

Other than that, I could only view the first half of it. Wouldn't load any further.

To be honest, the same thing over and over again gets boring fast. Perhaps it lead to something amazing at the end... ?

thanks for watching.

well, it does lead to a "surprise" in the end. I am aware of the fact that it can be a little boring, especially since the song is quite slow, you could say it is not the classic kind of music video.

Anybody else has any opinions? not many responses yet unfortunately..

Thanks

thanks.

does anybody have any idea of any festival that accepts music videos where I could try to enter it?
or perhaps even some TV channels that accept entries from unknown and unsigned artists?

Thanks

it was a cool vid but it really needs some true content to be marketable, you can get away with good looking video on dvxuser.com because people like to watch video for the technical and aesthetic aspect of it but a true audience will not be as forgiving, most people have a very little attention span...

That was a cool effect, but as I was watching I kept waiting for the band to appear out of the oil, now THAT would have been sweet.

I'm going to have to agree with the majority... it definitley was a "cool" effect, but it got tedious, and needed something else to help it move along. I think "Lavinsky" nailed it with his review.

Pretty cool video. i would re-edit though.
This type of video is all about editing, the flow has to be exact, and for me the cuts jarred, especially at the start. Trying putting a few versions together, - try doing one with out the music. Often following musical timings, like drum hits, can be the worst thing to follow.
My two cents.
Great idea overall though. pleasure to watch. nice song too.

thanks for the opinions everybody, I really appreciate it.
After conceiving the idea one of the band members suggested that they could come out of the colors, as tjohara99 said.
The reason why I didn't even really consider it is because I didn't want to use any digital effects.

I am considering doing a recut of the video without listening to the music, I actually did the first cut listening to massive attack, and then adapted it to the song, but it might be an idea to try something different.

Again, I'm aware of the fact that there isn't much in there apart from the "cool" effect and a couple of gold fish swimming around, and I guess maybe working on it more might make it better. Not extremely marketable though.

I'll work on it and please if anybody else has more opinions, please go ahead.

Thanks a lot

I think that was very interesting yes. the ink or oil in water is a very neat effect. I used it in my logo. One thing I might suggest is get it a bit lighter.... I mean yeah it's obvious what we are looking at but the colors dont "pop" or anythin. What I did with mine was I put it in black and white and then colored it and inverted it....gave it kind of a glowy feeling: http://media.putfile.com/LiquidMotion. Nothin you have to do of course, maybe you were going for that look but yeah its just an idea. Cool vid though
