HVX Price check week of June 12th 2006

Brief update.
No I did not purchase yet. I did call around on Friday and really no change in pricing and availability. I did call EVS, they did not have the HVX in stock and they tried to sell me on the JVC HD 100. But I do have some interesting thoughts, which I'll post later on the day. And Slater and Irons together with you?

Has anyone bought through Lerro before?

I was just calling around and to my suprise, the dude said they have some HVX's in stock, so I proceeded to get the ordering info and get one placed on hold for me. The price is 5500 (unfortunately higher than in Taxcutter's post, but still alright for me... besides, I need to get it ASAP) and because I'm in California, he said I need to get a Certified check made up and FedEx'ed in, with the shipping included.

I'm hoping a cashier's check is a certified check...

and so I'm planning to call back later today to confirm that and also probably upgrade my shipping from standard UPS to something with some insurance, or FedEx. But before I get on the blower with them again, I wanted to ask if anybody here has dealt with these guys before. I know they're authorized Panasonic dealers, so they're not too shifty or anything, but just curious as to anybody else's experience with them.

I found my P2 cards there back when no one else had any. Following that I purchased my P2Store from them. They are in the Broadcast supply business--not a small operation. Hugely professional but with nice people. You'll not go wrong with them.

P.S. If you're in a hurry why not use a credit card?

The dude (Matthew, as it turns out) said if I were local and walked into the place, I could. But as I'm out of state, apparently it's certified checks they want. Seems kinda strange, but I have no idea if that's unusual or not.

Thanks for the response, makes me feel better. :)

Edit: Also, just as an update, I called back and got clarification on a couple things. One is that it seems they always ship UPS insured. So my concern there was relieved. And also, a cashier's check is indeed what they mean for out-of-state buyers.

If you are still looking for an HVX200, try Shawn Tallard at Full Compass Sales (800-356-5844 x1152).

I bought an HVX200, stereo shotgun mike, two 8GB P2 cards, Canopus Edius, and a Varizoom lens controller from him last week, and he's been absolutely terrific. There is no California sales tax, so you save 8+ percent, which adds up.

Just found out that my HVX is on it's way to me. I called Spec-Comm and they were great to deal with. They were upfront that they didn't have any in stock (when i called) but they kept me up to speed on the progress and I now have a tracking number!

They offer a great deal (free shipping in US, free 6000mAh battery, 10% discount on their upcoming Cineporter DTE). Add to that no sales tax outside of Maryland and a nice discount for using a certified check. Also, when purchasing an HVX they have good prices on P2 cards, so I had them through in a 4 GB card.

Come next Wednesday, I should be holding a new camera in my hands. :)

Yes. Spec comm gives you a free battery, free shipping, and 10% off the cineporter once released! And the price is 5,399.

I sent in my certified check to spec comm last week, (they will give you %2 off with certified check!! That is about $108 savings :) ) Great people to work with. Within the next week my HVX was shipping out! I was expecting a backorder or a wait. But now my HVX will be arriving before most of the accessories I ordered for it!

I am just waiting for the cineporter release! You also get 10% off the cineporter if you bought the HVX from spec-comm, as mentioned by the previous post.

Also for those interested check out the cineporter faq thread which is a sticky in the hvx hardware section. There is a group buy list limited to 100 people. I think it is near 70 at the time of this writing. It will get you 10% off, but don't join until you have made up your mind on a purchase.

I am very happy with the spec-comm price and service.

-best regards,
Ryan

Mark,

Thanks for your legwork here. Very easy to follow the links from the first post, make some calls, find out who had the camera in, get the deal I wanted, and all in less than an hour. One of my fastest purchases ever!

Ended up going with Roscor. They are an authorized dealer who I had purchased my first DVX from (DVX buyers group from 2-pop forum way back when) and had a good initial experience with them.

Spoke to both Lee and Bruce, very professional and knowledgeable as stated. Bruce had quoted me a price of $5299 for the camera several weeks back when they did not have stock in. He honored that price and UPS ground shipping was $35. Total for camera $5334. Camera shipped out the day I placed my order and I should have it middle of next week.

The Spec-Comm deal with the free battery looks very good as well. What is the total cost with the 2% off with a certified check. Anyone scored that deal yet?

Maybe the list of authorized dealers should be made into a sticky? Thanks again for doing the research.

Rick
