Well its my first attempt editing multi camers in Vegas. Just wonder whats the best way to lay out the video tracks on my time line? I'm doing a 4 camera shoot of a concert soon and want to mix all footage. Here is my layout.

Camera 1 - wide shot from (center) front of house near sound board. This camera will cary the main audio as well.

Camera 2 - stage right

Camera 3 stage left

Camera 4 extreme close up shots, front of stage.

What would be the best way to preview and edit scenes from each camera to use in the main timeline?

i believe there's 2 3rd party scripts for multiple camera's to make editing easier in Vegas .. BUT i'm not sure if they work with V4 ?

back in V3 i would edit multi cam shoots ..
1st put up my master cam ..
i would then match each camera under master track ..
in the event that any camera was shorter or had sections missing ( just leave those section black and continue to syc up the rest of clip) ) - in the end after all camera's were in sync in TL i would then render off each video track so they would be the exact same length .. i would then take those rendered clips and add them to TL as TAKES ... i would then preview the video and use the "T" key to change tracks at any time .. then i would start cutting - at any cut you can right click and choose which TAKE you want or just hit the "T" key ..

Very cool tip, I'll try this first.

Excalibur v2.0 works perfectly with Vegas 4.0e.
The Multicam wizard is worth the price by itself...it's saved me a whole lot of time on 2-4 camera shoots.
I know the program has been "updated" for Vegas 5+, but the older version may still be available.
Hope this helps.

To see many different methods of editing multi-cam in Vegas, you might take a look at Vol 1 #9 of my newsletters at jetdv.com. The newest version of Excalibur that works with Vegas 4 is 3.x and can certainly still be acquired. Just e-mail me for details.

I did print your newsletter and will try some of your tips first. I really need to spend more time with VEGAS. Adding as takes will be new to me and I always wanted to try it.
