CakeBake One Minute Short

This is my new one minute short. It comes in two flavors. Awesome 83meg MPG file, or the not so hot YOUTUBE, but hey at least you can check out the camera work. I tried to take something very simple and make it fun to watch. If you could download the MPG version and critic it that would be nice, if not check out the youtube version and let me know what you think of the camera work at least. Trying to move my way up to shooting longer and better films.

I used two 1200 watt shop lamps to light it. I lit the place up with those lamps. and I still think some shots where dark. I dont get it.. Things I need to do ..uprez to 16:9. fix some sound problems. and CC.. I stink at CC. Any advice would be nice..

24p with default settings 1 tripod and a step ladder(I really need a dolly of some sort maybe a nice jib or an hvx... :) rendered in vegas

Thanks and enjoy CakeBake part 1

I agree with J5 Squared. The beginning was the best part. I love when she gets off the chair and you're tracking her footsteps ahead of her, very nicely done.

Two things I was trying to accomplish in this short .. was better camera movement and Lighting. Since I dont have a dolly or tracks, I improvised by sliding it on books coutertops chairs magizines handheld... I wanted to keep a sense movement. Even if it is subtle movement. I think it appears to the viewer that more is happening than what really is, making it more fun to watch. (Really how fun is it to watch someone walk, yet that is what I liked the most about this short:). )The scene where my wife and duaghter are talking seems a little jarring to me becuase theres all this movement then a static picture(I was using the camera mic so moving the camera messed up the sound I should have miced it.)

Lighting is another issues you, needed sunglasses to do the filming and its was still not what i wanted(practice I must)

I didn't watch it because I don't have time right now, but 83 megs is a huge file for one min of video. You should be able to get that down to 15meg easy with good quality.

I can never seem to get it too look as good maybe im doing something wrong I dont know.. thats why I put up a youtube thing. one good one not so good..

Good quality footage... not quite sure what the purpose is...

Thanks

My purpose for making any video is either for my testing to try stuff or to make something interesting to watch.. thats it... pretty lofty huh :)

In this case I was trying to take something simple and make it fun to watch and trying new things with the dvx.. also trying to figure out the lighting I want. also i thought it was cute :) my duaghter and all :)

Really quite good! I liked:
"Imagine the possibilities!"
The dissolves instead of timelapsing for instance.
The fast cut to the powdered face.
The moving shots were nice.
Not a fan of the music, but that's personal taste.
Thought you could get rid of the awkward pauses in dialogue.
In lighting, dont forget the importance of shadows. There isn't much definition from blasting light in every direction.

Still good job! keen to see the second installment.

Glad you liked it and thanks for The input.
I want to make a longer film (a good short) but trying to hone my skills first so posting to this forum is great for that.. My lighting, as I stated previously ,always bugged me. I bought some 250 watt 3200k photo bulbs gonna try some back lighting on my next project.
The dialogue was done last and it was midnight and my daughter is 7 so I plunked the camera down and used the camera mic, one take. My main goal on this was to learn to edit better and get better camera shots and movement. make it interesting to watch someone do something not so interesting..
