I've been learning soundtrack pro at school and i really do think its a fairly useful program. I'm an avid vegas user at home though and i'd like to know if theres something thats an equivilent to soundtrack pro for vegas? I've seen three different audio editors that sony makes. Acid, Sound Forge, and a new Cine something program. Which one is most like soundtrack pro? I'd like something thats as multiranging as soundtrack if possible. Something I can create simple audio loops with, but also has an extensive sound fx library and audio filters.

Really? I haven't taken the time to try out Cinescore yet, so I can't speak from experience regarding Cinescore, but from the video tutorials on Sony's site it look quite a bit different from Soundtrack Pro. What would be the similarities/differences of Soundtrack Pro and Cinescore?

IMHO, Soundtrack Pro is more of an audio editor/multitrack sequencer, which is like a mix of Sound Forge and Acid Pro (which in version 6 allows you to arrange audio clips on the same track, just like any other multitrack sequencer. If you're looking for an all in one audio processing and sequencing application for windows, Adobe's Audition (link) might be your ticket.

Cinescore is nothing like Soundtrack Pro. Cinescore is a music generator. It doesn’t even have the ability to add any FX much less edit and restore audio. These are two totally different applications.

In looking at the Soundtrack Pro web site it looks like all of it can be done directly in Vegas with the addition of Sound Forge for easier sample accurate editing and audio restoration. Don’t forget Vegas is a multi-track audio editor in addition to being an NLE. I didn’t see one feature in Soundtrack Pro that couldn’t be done right in Vegas already.

If you want to create your own loops then maybe ACID Pro is what you want. I didn’t see anything on the Soundtrack Pro web site about making your own loops but nothing makes loops better than ACID.

I have never used Soundtrack Pro so I’m just going by what I’m reading on their web site but I use Vegas, ACID, Sound Forge, and Cinescore every day so I know what they can do.

Alright well can anyone recommend a good library then? The music aspect of soundtrack pro isn't quite as important to me as the huge sound fx library. Where can i get a large library of sdfx.

The Sony library looks pretty big, and the samples I got from it sounded ok. (I'll probably buy the complete set when I have a need.)

I think they gleaned them from the SFX library Sony acquired when they bought the movie studio.

There a number of third party software that is too numerous to list. But if your looking for soundfx for features then you might look into Jeff Rona's Liquid Cinema series to get you started.
