American Standard Theatrical Trailer

You saw the teaser trailer here - now the theatrical trailer is ready for viewing. American Standard was shot on the HVX almost entirely on location in NYC.

You can find it at http://www.americanstandardthemovie.com/media.html - I recommend watching the large or HD if you have the time.

The site is a work in progress but the trailer is ready - enjoy

In the low-light situations, like the opening shot, it looked grainy to me. I have noticed this with my HVX as well. When the scenes are well lit, that was not the case.

I wonder how the HVX fairs for magic hour, outdoor scenes? Or sunset shots where two characters are speaking to each other?

Oh, I get it, everything takes place in the bathroom, that's why its called american standard? Is that a toilet brand? (i'm from canada)
I was kind of expecting the trailer to go "all this stuff happens in a bathroom," then zoom into the 'american standard' brand logo printed on the toilet.

Oh, it is a toilet brand, i found this:

Is there a scene where some dude goes 'I'm the new king of the thrones!'
Anyway, looks like a funny fun movie, bright with good looking people and a great unifying location and theme. This is a real contender! And you've got some big scenes with lots of people. How d'ja do it all??

It wasnt easy filling up all the scenes - takes lots of time and commitment to casting.

Our site is mostly done now - just updating the content

Hey, pretty funny stuff. If I had one bone to pick, it would be that the audio could be looped in about 1/4 of the scenes, particularly in the bathroom. It's especially crucial since it is a dialogue-heavy film. Maybe you've already improved the audio since the trailer. Don't mind me, I'm just a sound supervisor so I can get pretty picky. But if you plan on seeking distribution, you might want to re-visit some of the dialogue's audio integrity because QC is not very forgiving.

Oh, by the way, what caught my attention about your subject heading was that I'm currently working on a film called American Standards. You may want to look into it to avoid any ugliness.

Looks really funny. I like the high key lighting and colorful look. How did you think the acting held up?

And... Got any festivals planned? Screenings? Ditro? Looks very promising!

Also as far as titles.. ya can't copyright or claim ownership.. dominion on them at all. Same thing happened to me in NYC. I actually spilled a beer all over a screenwriter at an IFFM party who happened to be writing a script called White Bread and I had just finished shooting my film with the same title. He was a cool guy and we became drinking buddies in NYC.

I see that there are like 4 different movies named Revenge in one year, so what you're saying sounds true. If that's the case, why do studios have to pay for the right to use certain titles?

It al depends if you are registered with the MPAA with your title. If you are not registered with the MPAA then you have a right to use any title you want because you are not controlled by their rules. However if you are registered with the MPAA AND you have the priority on a specific title, then other films will need permission to use that title within the same period that you are going to. Its essentially a system to avoid confusion in the markerplace.

Yes we are working on cleaning up sound - since every scene is in a bathroom there is some work to get done.

What ugliness are you speaking of - Do you know if your film is registered with the MPAA?

Thanks for the compliments - THe acting actually blew us away - we received about 5000 headshots, auditioned about 500 and then cast the 21 principal roles - all that work was worth it - we found THE characters.

Submitting to sundance in sept - couple of other fests after that but - yes seeking distro - this is a film with broad appeal and a cult film feel (complex intersecting plots) - and its really funny.

interesting on the MPAA.. Makes total sense. Sometimes its nice to play outside of their rules.... I do also believe that this is expensive to get, right?

You play out of their rules if you dont need the protection - we wanted to be able to use the title without fear of another mpaa film using it at the same time.

Not as expensive as you think - its about 600-700 for yearly membership - and then 100 to reserve 10 titles (ballpark numbers) - so if you have a competitive film it can be a good idea - but once you join ALL of your titles are subject to their rules.
