HVX Crane Shot

I've been shooting a little short film in which during a day, random items suddenly stop obeying the laws of gravity for one man.

These shots are from a scene in which he throws up a wiffle ball to hit it, and it continues going up rather than coming back down.

I shot it in 720p 24n on CineV settings. I boosted the contrast and saturation in Avid seeing as it was kind of cloudly out and I didn't want the dreary colors.

Here are some pictures of the rig we created to get the crane shot:

and here's a clip:

a few takes we didn't use

I set it to manual focus, focused it when I was closest to my target, and then pulled back. It seemed to work out just fine.

dang those pics gave me a heart attack.... doesn't look too stable, dude. but the crane shots look good on the hvx.

LOL,
There is no way I would trust my cam on that rig, but the footage looked good. Wondering why gravity only affect certain objects and not the bat when he drops it...

It was a little scary... the table supported my weight though (175) so I figured it could handle the tripod, jib arm and camera. I only really was allowing it because I had two of my large friends holding the tripod. That meant that with any slippage it wasn't going anywhere.

As for the gravity aspect, only certain items during the day aren't obeying the laws of gravity, and in this case its exceedingly annoying that the ball doesn't come back down. I'll post the whole sequence tonight once I've finished editing it.

Look Ma NO MONITOR!

Look Ma NO MONITOR!

Looks like a Jib to me.. a crane the operator rides with the camera to pan/tilt operate...

whitch coming to that man you did a good job at flying blind! NO MONITOR! I remember doing that with the early cobra cranes. a marshal or even a Video Ipod if it acepts composite rca in some how whould have been a huge help.
