There are some very nice shots in there.

The music is the same used by Norm Li on his demo reel though. If you don't know who he is, you should, and it's probably not too cool to have the same music.

One thing that I always think is important in a demo reel, ESPECIALLY if you're advertising as a director, is showing the ability to handle a story. Cool looking images cut to music is nice to start, but put part of a scene or something in there. Show me that you can carry a conversation or handle an action sequence in a visually entertaining and quick-paced fashion. If you're simply trying to show the quality of the footage you can produce, I think your stuff looks good. If I was looking for a director, I'd need to see more of how you handle a story.

I haven't watched the reel, but if it's the same as Norm's its from Old Boy. Stunning movie, stunning soundtrack.

yeah i go to full sail,, the song that i used is from Old Boy,, i really love that movie and i found the soundtrack the other day,, i heard it's been used in a lot of demo reel,, my bad!
this is like my first draft of the demo reel,, and i don't know what should i put if i wanna put the title as director,, bcause usually i always shoot the project myself..
Do you guys have any suggestion to fix the demo reel?
 
LOL i would'nt feel too bad about using the same song, if he can steal a song you too can steal the song, and of course as can the next guy that feel's like stealing the same song
 
Nice footage, but where is the audio??? I think if you are looking to get hired anywhere, you need to show that you know audio also!!

Well,, that footage with the crane(kids running) actually shot in 35mm..
I write and direct a short film last december in school,, we use Chapman crane,, arriflex 235, arricam lite and arri studio,, the one that in the crane was 235,,
i dont put the dialog,, bcause i don't wanna ruin the music,, but the audio was good,, if you guys want to check the short film i can post it,,

About the reel, yeah i'm thinking to re-edit that,, it's really slow at the beginning,, i gotta find another music ^_^
 
My favorite shot was of the guy in the diner in the background with the rain hitting the window. I think it moves a little slowly, but I also think it is cut well enough with the music - that is unless you are going to change it. I always like reels that let the shot rest for a while, or else it is just like a music video and I can't see the technique and style. So the pacing works for me, but if this is a director's reel then I need to see the storytelling aspects....if this is a show reel for your photography then fine, but you might want to cut some of your best "directorial" scenes into several smaller reels to highlight your storytelling capabilities. A website will all of these available for download would certainly paint a better pciture of what you are capable of doing both as a DP and a director. Good luck!
 
For a Director reel, just smack your best scenes together (scenes with two people in them). Make sure they are complete scenes. Your current reel feels like a cinematography or editors reel. Producers want to see that you can direct people and not just camera.
 
What! Oh no...I was like the first to use that song for almost 2 years now and now a lot of people are using that same song? Damnnnnnn.

It's okay that people use it but makes me want to change mine although I really don't want to...

It's like writing a song, spending the money to record it, get it published and wake to find some guys are using it in their demo reels :)

Dude, your images are nice but find a way to "artistically" include some dialog and cut the music around it. Don't abandon having music - just adds some elements of the dialog and you'll have a nice (modern) Directors reel.

Thanks for all the critic guys,, i'll try to put the dialog there so it will show how the story goes, emotions etc.. i'm a bad editor so it's gonna be quite hard,,
