DVX100a: Broken tripod socket -- now what?

Well, switching between my Manfrotto tripod mounting plate and Manfrotto monopod has cracked my tripod socket.

Is this a user fixable problem (does Panasonic sell the part), or is it back to Panasonic for a repair?

Thanks for your help.

The repair shop I rought my DVX100A to told ,e that they see that problem often and that it has to be repeired by an authorized repair facility like theirs. That being said it still might be possible for you to repair it. It's too bad that it is not easily swapable like the DVX100B.

Here ya go. It's a forward from another DVXuser that gave it to me when mine broke.

I had to call Panasonic technical support in the beginning. At first, they could not help me and said they'd call me back within a few days. To my surprise, a representative actually did call me back, with the part number and everything. She said to call 1-800-833-9626 and order part number "VMD3345", for $11.57.

That same day, i had posted a similar thread to yours, in the "technical" forum site. Someone said they too had the part, for the same price. His contact info is:

I think he said he only had 1 or 2 left before I purchased mine....so i can't promise you that he has any left in stock. If he does have one, and you call him before 2:30 Eastern Time, he can have it sent out on UPS (mine was shipped w/ in an hour after placing the order). You should call him first. IF he doesnt have any tripod brackets left in stock, then try calling the number Panasonics support team gave me.

Good Luck!

Thanks. I love this site and all the helpful information on it. I will order it and swap it out myself.
