New Monitor

I just came across this new Varizoom monitor (SWIT- s1080DF). I was told that it takes HD/SDI which was a surprise to me... on the varizoom website it's not totally clear.
The monitor hasn't been released yet but reportedly will be in the next couple weeks.

Does anyone have any more information on this? This would give the Marshall a good run for it's money.

I'm surprised that the marshall have also 480*800 of resolution. Everyone is claiming that the Marshall is perfect for external monitoring on HD with the HVX200. 480 vertical line is enough?? Doesn't that is A LOT less than 720? Even if the camera doesn't really have 720 lines of vertical resolution, is 480 line enough?

I think the Marshall seems to be the best one "for the money". That's why people are buying it. You're right though... It would be better to use a monitor that is native 720 or 1080. Those are expensive!! More than the HVX.

Hi Guys... Rob at NEBTEK here,

The native resolution of 800x480 (RGB) can be a bit deceiving. The Panasonic 8.4" is one of the few HD units available with a 1024x768. Unfortunately at $4200 it was way out of my ballpark for an onboard camera monitor. You'll find that all of the units under $2000 offer the 800x480 resolution which is actually a tremendous amount of pixels for a 7" screen.

The reason I chose Marshall for our Sony Z1U was because I recognize the reputation of the manufacturer as being one of the most established LCD companies out there (ie: Bolland, Astro, Panasonic). When shopping for an onboard HD camera monitor, cost and image are my number one concerns. I trust that if I have any problems with my Marshall they have the technical support I need. It was just an added bonus that they had such an extremely low power consumption rate, and I could modify my unit with one of our Lithium-ion battery adapters. Now I'm powering up my Camera and LCD with 2 SONY NP-F970 batteries, and I'm good for pretty much all day.

Besides, I took a peak under the hood and Marshall is using one of the best LCD HD panels there is for this unit... it's not a cheap LCD.

I just got my Marshall from Nebtek with the Panasonic Adapter over nighted to me, and It looks fantastic. It arrived this morning and I am very happy with the first look of the monitor.

I'm mounting it tomorrow and balancing my steadicam (hollywood lite GTX) with my M2 and the marshall. Should be a very tough balancing act, but will be much worth it.

VariZoom Swit HD

VariZoom Swit HD

This is Tom McKay from VariZoom. We have been shipping the new 8" 1080bs and the 1080df with sdi inputs in limited numbers.

The unit comes with a nice little plastic case with fitted foam insert that holds the monitor securely as well as a very nice hard plastic hood, shoe/trestle, & power adapter.

The 1080bs comes standard with a Sony Vlock battery mount but is also available for JVC mini dv battery mount as well as HVX battery mount and Sony mini dv.

Like all new products we have some fine tuning to do as such we limit the numbers on sales in the begining. By August I expect we will have plenty of product available.

Here is a picture of the system in the case.

Hi Jeff,

We're looking at a September/October release date on a full production run of our new HD, but we are hoping to debut the unit at IBC- Amsterdam and Cinec- Munich. So far the stats are looking good.

How does a 600 NIT (Candelas) brightness, 800x480 res with a 700:1 Contrast Ratio and our trademark anti-glare/anti-reflective screen grab you?

I believe I'm getting a nebtech monitor tomorrow. it's basically a marshall monitor with a panasonic battery slot.

Hi BigMike,
The unit I was telling Jeff about is a NEW designed by NEBTEK HD unit due out in September or October.

We are currently selling the Marshall modified V-R-70P- HDA and SDI units with your choice of battery adapters (Panasonic, Canon, Sony or JVC), because we bought one for our SONY Z1U and were completely impressed with the overall quality, low power consumption and extremely reasonable price of the unit.

8" 1080bs - anyone tried it?

8" 1080bs - anyone tried it?

Has anyone tried the SWIT 1080-bs out w/ their hvx? I'm struggling to find any difference between this and the Marshall that everyone's using, other than it appears that the Marshall has 4-pin xlr power and is about $500 more than the SWIT?

Thoughts? I know specs can be deceiving...

tia...

Yes, me too. Seriously considering picking up the Swit 1080bs next week, but would love to hear some feedback, especially if anyone has compared it to a Marshall.

Cheers,
Dale
