Whip Crackin' Samurai Setup

Just posted some pics of my HVX200 with M2 adaptor and CAVision bellows matte box. There's a kessler crane and Marshall monitor in there too. I'm also testing out some whip crackin' samurai armor for my upcoming comedy feature shoot in August.

Acting? No. I'm right in the middle of casting and looking for the next Jon Heder. Just tested the armor out. It's steel-plated and heavy! Needs some extra padding to cushion the blow.

Cool setup! I want also that Kessler Crane! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) What kind of tripod you are using with it?

Dittos on the tripod question, cause I am ordering a Kessler tomorrow- thought of going with Libec LS22 legs and using the Kessler fluid head. Any thoughts?

Nice looking rig- All I can say about the Samurai swords, to quote Raising Arizona, is "mind you don't cut yourself Morticai"...

Good luck with film

Bought the tripod legs with the fluid head directly from Kessler. The tripod is made by Tiffen. The rig is pretty heavy and that's only the 8' setup. I have yet to hook up the 12' extender. So I would be careful with which tripod you get. The fluid head is a real bargain though. I don't want to break my new Cartoni.

Hey- thanks for the input.

Yeah, i ordered the KC-8 and fluid head from Kessler yesterday. I think it'll work okay on the Libec LS22 sticks. If not, I'll re-order those Tiffen legs from Kessler.

Thanks again for the advice and good luck with the film there Kurosawa.

:)

That's cool. That looks almost like my set up! I even used the kessler crane, although I was using it more like a jib. Lowering the cam, pulling focus with the redrock unit. I just got the marshall hooked up and that would help a lot for the stuff I"m doing.

I took a pic, so I'll post as soon as I can.

Ran into a problem with manually tilting the camera on the kessler crane using the Kessler Fluid head. You have to unbolt the tilt bar from the base, but it's very difficult to control because of the weight. I used velcro straps to add some support to the tilt bar, but it's still not ideal. I have to hear back from them about it, but it looks like you may need a tripod fluid head like the Bogen 516 to do it right.
