Captured 24p footage in 30i Project. Now what?

I have spent some time reading the posts here and I have learned a lot, but I still didn't see anything that addresses my specific problem, so I would appreciate some guidance, thanks.

Back when I didn't know anything about the DVX I started a a project on Avid Xpress in 30i mode and captured 24p footage into it. Through all the editing process I didn't have any problems until it was time to output to DVD and I started having problems with the interlaced footage. It looks pretty horrible on TV.

For the time being I found a temporary fix by removing the Interlacing in a separate aplication, but the results are less than ideal.

So my question is, Can I fix this and bring my clips and sequences into the 24p realm without having to go back and recapture everything? Please say yes please please please :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

By the way, now that I am a little bit wiser I started taking a closer look at the footage (which was shot by different cameramen in different countries) and it looks like the settings vary considerably from operator to operator. Hard to tell at this point who shot 24p from 24pa. There's also some 30i footage in there.

Thank you very much

As far as I know, the only way to fix this is to deleted the media files and recapture it.

Since you've already edited the footage you could decompose the sequence and only capture the clips that you used in the sequence.

.. you did label your tapes and name them while capturing, didn't you?

Thanks for your reply

Yeah, the tapes are well documented. Since this is strictly a television project I assumed I should work in 30i. I've seen the tutorials on how to move a project from 30i to 24p, but... what happens to my 30i footage I wanna use in the same timeline? Is there any other way to get rid of the interlacing artifacts?

Thanks

The only time you should see interlacing artifacts on a DVD is when pausing. Other than that, playback should look like when playing out of your 30i project to a client monitor. Check your compression settings and make sure they are correct. Don't try to deinterlace in the encoder. Just treat it as 50 field material.

If you want to go back to 23.976p project, follow the instructions here:

Sorry, I meant 60 field material but I really wanted to write 59.94 fields and dropped it down to 50....ooops!
