DVX100 power switch / rear record button came off

Hi,

I'm having a problem. My power switch power switch / rear record button came off. None of the plastic is broken on the switch itself, but I can't get it back on. How do I get that little piece to attach back on to the ring? Has anyone else ever had this problem? Is this common?

Is there a trick to getting it back on? I have a shoot this weekend. I can still operate the camera by using the top record button. Although I'd like my camera in tip top shape.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Here are some pictures just in case what I said didn't make sense.

What came off?

This should be a really simple fix but it just won't clamp back on. Has this ever happened to anyone else? What should I do to get the button/switch back on? None of the parts are broken. It's simply a matter of not being joined with the main unit.

Thanks

I've heard of a few other people having this problem. Unfortunately, I don't know of any solution besides taking it in somewhere. Maybe someone else can chime in on this one?

Fixed!

Fixed!

Ok, I became one with my DVX :) I fixed the switch myself. Here is how.

If this happens to you:

  1. gently pop the red core out of the switch. (releases tension from the core)
  2. place the black switch back on
  3. find a tiny flathead screwdriver usually used for glasses
  4. gently between the plastic prongs apply some counter pressure on the round ring with the tiny side of the screwdriver (this way the hooks will clamp on securely)
  5. make sure the switch is working properly, turn it off and on to see if it feels right
  6. now this is an important part you don't want to mess up. Now it's time to insert the record button back into the center of the switch. It has to be lined up properly. It's not difficult - it's quite obvious - just make sure you do this step correctly.
  7. Voila! Fixed.

pretty easy

Thank You for the help!

Thank You for the help!

My swith has been sitting in my drawer for 6 months.
Now it is fixed, THANK YOU!

If anyone is wondering, a "repair" shop will charge $95.00 plus tax to "fix" this.:kali:

That's great! I'm glad you could fix your DVX. I'm happy the solution I came up with could be applied to another person in need.

I'm having the same problem... but I can't get this to work. The photo links no longer appear. Any chance of someone reposting or giving a clearer description of how to attach the black "ring" after I pop the center red plastic piece out?

Thanks
