No audio in FCP5.1 ?

I imported my P2 files and converted into FCP to .mov. The .mov files have audio when played back in quicktime, but when imported into fcp there is none. Any ideas why it's being lost? The files are 720/30P if that matters. The sequence settings appear OK. :shrug:

could it be your Audio settings for FCP, I know that I need to selevt my USB mixer for my audio to be heard.
 
I don't think so. Everything else has played fine. The files play fine in QT. Other files play alright.

There is just something about these files that FCP doesn't like or understand. I think that when I imported the MXF files I selected the drop unused frames option. QT doesnt seem to mind the result but FCP cant quite interpret them correctly.

any other ideas?

You didn't ingest them directly into the project you were working on in FCP?

When you import them into FCP, in the Browser, right click and go to Item Properties. Is there any audio info there?

Open the clip from the Browser into the Viewer, are there any audio tabs there?
 
OK, I solved it.

I just realized that I was trying to play the quicktime files on 10.3.9. Quicktime 6.5 (my older system) vs. my new MacBook with the latest everything (where it originated). Evidently though the video came in fine the older version couldn't interpret the QT audio tracks correctly (?).

Sorry for the idiocy on my part.

Yes, it is feeling rather neglected. I left it all alone while I was jetting around, shooting with this beautiful new camera. Came home and immediately started making demands of it without so much as an friendly update.

a little tlc to make it feel better would be in order.

Get the freeware MacJanitor. Get the "real" apps Disk Warrior and TechTools.

Once a week run Software Updater.
Then run MacJanitor.
Then run Disk Utilities.

Once a month run DiskWarrior and Techtools, along with everything else.

And milk and cookies before bed time.

Be good to your Mac, it will be good to you.
