The HVX has taken some tough criticism...

lol

i've never seen a group of camera owners that needed so much external validation for a camera purchase. ever. seriously, you guys are giving me second thoughts on ever buying an hvx.

who cares? learn your camera, whichever camera, and your craft. do good work.

how is it that adam wilt, a hero only days ago with the dvx camp, is now branded incompetent? forgive me if i give him a little more leeway than some of the loonies in here. he's at least earned that.

people. get a grip. the hvx is a camera. it is not the second coming. and it certainly has no sole claim on the word "best," not by a long shot. get over it.

and i sincerely mean all that only in the bestest way, for your sake and mine.

I'm not shooting, i'm directing/posting. Settings were all as they should be, AFAIK. This particular instance was run-n-gun interviews, no time to light properly. (wich IS partly my fault for not properly producing)
I think the noise issues with both the HVX and DVX are widely recognised, and i knew first hand that it was a problem with the DVX, but i just expected a little more from the HVX. I'm just a little bummed.

I now know that i will consider the HVX in a more controlled environment, and maybe switch to something like the XL H1 in a fast-paced environment. You see, i always need the cleanest picture possible. It is non-negotiable for me.

I read some stuff by user Disjecta, i can agree with a lot of his points.

Lol. It's funny, this thread started out in an effort to explain why the HVX has taken so much harsh criticism. In the process it escalated into people ranting about why their camera's were better, which in turn got people to defend their HVX camera's against more unneccsary attacks.... (myself included) Let's try to get along here, and as someone has said already The images speak for themselves. Everything else is footnotes.... As for my comments and others regarding JVC, I am not trying to attack them. Those were real experiences, I just want to warn others, who may be considering them. Thats all. Nuff said, take it for a grain of sand if you will.
And also talking about how much you love your camera isn't insecurity, it's confidence. Peace.:)

That's great, Use what works for you. Don't let anyone tear you down; Sorry if in the heat of debate I was condescending.:)

Movie Stunts (real name?) ... you're a decent guy ...

But your thread started off completely negative. That's why it ended up like this. You were rallying other HVX owners for a battle that the mods and other HVX owners have been trying to stop.

These kinds of threads shouldn't be allowed to go beyond the first post, because this is how the battles really get started.

If you don't like to read negative thoughts, or what you consider negative, on your choice of camera... then stop reading honest reviews.

All of the cameras are pretty much equal, though I'd probably buy an HVX over the others for plenty of reasons.

I know that you're much more concerned with creating something with your six-thousand dollar plus purchase... don't let the articles and threads on noise get to you.

Do what you have to.

Looking forward to your HOrror Fest entry.

Kholi Point taken, I was trying to stop the negative feedback at the start, it seems I went about it the wrong way. Thanks everyone for the posts, I don't think it's been a waste, good debates are always liveley-sp-. Everyone, keep it real.

Hey Joel . . . thanks for the weather report! Is that a routine practice or does that camera not come with an adjustable iris?

On all of these cameras you don't want to shoot at more than F5.6. The HD-100 built in ND's are pretty weak so you need an ND9 if you walk outside. I think it's got to be the first thing most shooters buy for that camera.

The HVX has a strong second ND built in, so you can walk outside and just shoot. The difference between ND1 and ND2 on the HVX is large, so I think you really need an extra ND for the HVX to fill that gap.

Someone can always raise this (or a similar) thread from the ashes every time we can't think of something informative or useful to post but, IMHO, you can try another bazillion times if you want but you will still never get people who have made (or are about to make) a different choice to validate your decision for you. An dat's dat!

I don't care what anyone buys but if people post what I consider blatant misinformation I'll respond if I happen to see it. I generally try to avoid these threads.

I think there are reasons to get an HVX, I just didn't like using it. If the next guy likes an HVX better, that's cool with me. Lots of great stuff has been shot with it. I'd agree with everyone who thinks if you apply your skills to any of these cameras you'll get good stuff - so buy the one that's easiest to use and makes you want to go out and shoot.

As with virtually any subject that is discussed somewhat authoritatively, there is going to be a pissing contest. Perhaps this is especially true in the tech world, where people will abide by their digital axe of choice with an aire of confidence and/or superiority. I don't think MOVIESTUNTS' intent was to create a boxing match between variant HD cams or to thrash people who have elected not to purchase the HVX. The camera speaks for itself... frankly, I am interested in this site for tech support and fraternization among individuals who might be hitting the same stumbling blocks as me, and who might have efficient solutions. That's really where this site fluorishes.

I do agree that a thread of this nature is functionally irrelevant, considering that members herein all own the camera (for the most part) and believe that it was worth the expenditure, but just the same.

Thank God for this website! It's a powerful resource.

Ok, if you're reading this, you know full well you are on an HVX/DVX support site. And we users will defend the cameras. DUH!

Go to a Windows support site and defend a Mac! STUPID MOVE, DUH!

Go to the Apple support site and post about how much better Windows is! STUPID MOVE, DUH!

Like Douglas Spotted Eagle, whom I USED to admire a GREAT deal. Then I went to a convention in Jan '06 where he was on a discussion panel about HD. He played word games and ran around semantics and never got to the real life technical. I totally lost respect for him as he was rude, impolite, and about as misinformed technically as anyone I've met. I expected so much more from him. I lost all respect for him at that moment. I was heartbroken.

Now he's trashing the HVX200 and P2/tapless work flow all over the place. And if you read his comments, they are all based on theoretical situations that no one has encountered yet, as well as his stating so called facts he has no data to back up.

PC card pins break left and right? I've been an IT Engineer for 20 years and have NEVER heard or seen that! I've seen them break, but it's more rare than common. He just confuses things unrelated and then calls it a fact. So what did I do?

So, I changed the channel to watch something that was more interesting to me.

So, let's just admit this: most of us here are HVX/DVX users and very, very happy with our "equipment" (oh I want to make a joke so bad at this point, but I'll keep it clean). This is not a site for people wanting to trash this equipment. I think that site is called "MacEmptyRumorsThatDefyHistoryAndLogic.com" or something like that.

Yes, we are here, we use HVX/DVX cameras, we will defend them, we love them, and all the crap in the world won't change that.

What it brings to mind is all the times I get called a "Mac Fanatic Loony" by folks who are Windows fanatic loonies. I mean, we're all loonies, we just come in different flavors.

If you don't like these cameras, simply change the channel and watch something else!

But to call everyone on this board a loony? Bad move cause it only shows your own ignorance. Name calling always does.

i have no problem with anyone loving their camera. climb the highest mountain and shout it out til your lungs explode for all i care.

you misunderstand my issue here, and i am not referrring to everyone on this board a loony. everyone, and i mean everyone, will acknowledge the hvx is a fantastic camera. that's why i'm here -- to try and learn something about it. i have absolutely no qualms about someone defending their 6k investment. my issue lies with the people defending their camera purchase with reactionary trash talk, putting down people and other cameras along the way with no factual basis to stand on. if your value system places more worth on a video camera that might be obsolete in two years than, say, treating people with some respect, then, you are, in all subjectiveness, a loony.

listen, we're all professionals or aspiring students here (i think). the point is to learn something, or contribute something. i'm glad the hvx works for you. the operative word here is YOU. a little difference of opinion is a good thing -- isn't it? otherwise, we'd all be drinking the punch.

Cool, now that we've all blown are collective load here, let's get back to the issue at hand. All people who own HVX200's are superior humans. Ready? Discuss....

:)

I'm looking forward to getting the HVX, but it may not be the 200- a 200A perhaps? Run and gun just doesn't seem to be it's strong suit, not so much the noise isssue for me but the lack of resolution in the viewfinder and LCD. If I was shooting in situations that allowed for a monitor to be used - no biggie, but I shoot a lot of Doc and ENG style stuff that makes this prohibitive. I can't undestand why Panasonic specc'ed such a low grade VF and LCD, unless it was to provide for a worthwhile upgrade in it's successor. Just like the 100/100A upgrade path.

Regardless, from what I'm hearing here, run and gun doesn't appear to be it's strength. Horses for courses etc..

Hmmm, or maybe it was because they wanted to deliver a feature rich camera at a very reasonable price point. Ya think?

And, I don't know about you, but I don't get a lot of use out of any camera's LCD unless maybe I'm inside -- but if you ar serious about framing, focus, etc., there are certainly better solutions than using a built in LCD.
