Hi there! So anyway im from the UK, and im probably gonna get the DVX100B (pal) but i was just wondering, u USA dudes get a deal with the magic bullet software! Barry's book and other assorted goodies! What about us poor UK punters, is it no luck for us???!?

Also I was wondering what anamorphic lens you would recommend for converting the 4:3 to 16:9? as I would like to not lose any of my little darling pixils when shooting widescreen!

:)

Any bonuses/rebates/goodies like that would be determined by Panasonic UK.

As for anamorphic adapters, there is only one: the Panasonic LA7200.

Is it good to get the anamorphic adapter and shoot widescreen? Or better to shoot with the default lens and just crop in post?

I'm thinking it's better to crop in post because you'll have more control?

If you shoot with an anamorphic adapter, that means there is no room for cropping?

Let me know if I'm correct or not. Thanks.

Ciao!

Some answers to drameddie:
In general it's better to have an anamorphic lens (as long as it's good quality!) than crop in post, since the camera is able to use all of it's CCD / CMOS pixels to produce the frame. There's no difference if you crop in the camera, or in post, since you're just taking away picture information!

However, if you don't know the final market and the final aspect ratio, like if it's for cinemas with the 1.85:1, or for HDTV 16:9, then you either have to plan the shooting very carefully, or do your cropping in post. That is the advantage of doing it in post. If 4:3 ratio is still something to consider for the final product (for TV example), and 16:9 is also needed, then the trick is to shoot like they have always done in movie business: frame your 16:9 shots so that the action and actors are centered.

I have a question for the forum: Is there some quality footage shot with the Panasonic anamorphic adapter, in 16:9 aspect ratio of course? Me and my business partner are buying a camera within month, and I've been drooling for DVX-100 for some time now. Unfortunately the tight budget doesn't allow us to buy an HVX just yet :crybaby: I was thinking about shooting 16:9 with anamorphic lens with the DVX. Is there any problems using this set-up? Focusing or vignetting issues?
Editing is done in FCP 5, how's the work flow in that, any known problems?

I think this is just about the worst time for us to buy a camera, since Finland (where I live) is moving to digi-television era in a few years, so 16:9 is a must.

Another question, how does DVX material behave when up-rezzed to 720 with a program like Instant HD, or other specialized software? Any examples?

Thanks,

Proffit
