35 mm adapter and FCP

I just use the Motions tab and rotate 180 degrees. Takes a second, though when I have 50-100 clips to do it gets irritating. No need to flip or flop, as this degrades the image. Just rotate.

So this makes it easier? I will try it out and see for myself.

Cheers
Steve

Great work Andreas!

You can also do this by:
- draggin all your source clips into a matching timeline.
- Select all.
- drag the flop both filter to them.
- drag all clips back to the browser.

Hi Holger,

This was what I originally suggested to Mark (And I think he did know about that before already).

But this method might have some disadvantages though: You may be not sure about the clips which are already "flopped", and you need to delete the original ones manually. This is not an issue if you got only a few clips, but might be one if you got many and/or a lot of bins.
So keeping stuff organized is at least a little bit more painful.

There is also another advantage while working with XML: you always work with a "clean" copy of your project (or whatever) which is way more seldom affected affected by FCP prefs errors.

How about doing a "segmented clip joiner"

All Fat32 devices split their clips at either 2GB or 4GB sizes. FCP does not support the join tag of the P2 files.

a small app that could stitch clips with a countinuous timecode would be great. Then if you shoot with a free run timecode all segmented clips could be joined.

Holger,

Actually I got one since several years, which was originally done for my FireStores, than for my nNovia A2Ds, then for the first P2s. But except me nobody did need those apps - or was willing to pay for it.
The app is - as "always" - a XML generator with some add-ons, you can go thru the clips (joined automatically) read all MXF/XML metadata and move them into a FCP XML. Then copy the selected clips to a local HD and save the FCP XML.
Since I never needed audio I never did implement an MXF PCM to QT-PCM converter, this is also beyond my knowledge.
I did send the app to Apple asking for some help on that PCM, so that the P2 import could be perfect, but never got any response, except that P2 works fine with standard implemantation.
Same with Pana, though Pana is actually back in contact with me (or the other way round) to "maybe refurbish the app" - and add 35 mm adapter support.
I think this would be the easiest way to work with P2 - just insert the P2 card, preview the clips already merged and flopped, map metadata and transfer to local HD.
I will talk to some Panasonic people next week (because of some other urgent issues), so everybody who is interested, should send me an email. The more people/projects a got on the resulting "petition list" the more likely it will be that Panasonic is willing to free some resources, either by man power or money.

The app modifies the clips in the XML by applying a filter to them - sure you can copy attributes in a sequence, but the clips need to be in a sequence to make this work, you can't paste attributes to clips in a bin or in the browser.
Regarding the audio disabling: this shouldn't be a problem.

Andreas

Apple-A --Select all clips in your drag filter onto files. done.

took me longer to type this then to do it.

Andreas,

I just meant that after I import my P2 clips into FCP I could export an XML go though an utility and import it back in with the clips joined based on the TC.
A very small and simple app.

Sorry for that "Holger" Anders.

Regarding the theme itself, I do think it's better to start at the beginning of the "race" than changing things when you are some "miles further down the track".
But, sure I could do a utility for that. But this is way more unsafe, since it may require user interaction, definitely nested clips and it also may conflict with the media "mangling".

No offense - but maybe you missed the point (I know about the simple stuff in FCP). I assume you meant "select all clips in your sequence …"
As said before, how long does it take to:
• create a sequence
• drag a bin (or bunch of clips) to the sequence
• select all
• open the effects tab
• modify the "Flop"
• select all clips in the sequence
• drag the "Flop" to all selected clips
• create a new bin (for the modified clips)
• drag all clips from the sequence to the modified bin
• delete the old bin (or clips - and double check, whose of them are "Flopped" - since they got the same name)

• repeat that with multiple bins

So either you are a "very slow typewriter", or you're super-fast with FCP ;-)

Anyway, have you tried to drag the "Flop" filter to a bin, or multiple bins, or multiple sequences, and even if it would work, how would you make sure you haven't done that twice? Maybe you add labels. But it would be time consuming.

Andreas
