Any way at all to view MXF footage on computer?

Oh well, typical of an Avid product. If clearly is not supporting standard compressed AVI components. Put in a feature request for Liquid to add either VfW or DirectShow codec support.

Yes that is true, but I only use WMP for a quick shot review before convert the MXF files to AVIs (while up converft them to square pixel 1280x720 16x9) so that wrong aspect ratio in WMP doesn't bother me.

To get WMP to default to 16x9
open Windows Media Player
right click on the top of the WMP window, go
tools
options
devices
display
properties
adjust the slider to (approx) 0.8
click ok
click ok again to close

Oh- I almost forgot this trick I figured out.

If you click on a RAW MXF clip and tell windows to open it with Media Player, it will scream that it doesn't know how- and then voila- will show you the clip.

I thought I would be cool and check the box to "always open" with that file. Yeah- problem is Bill Gates is smarter than me and of course it doesn't know how to open it, so of course it always unchecks the box and you have to open it the same way with 3 extra clicks. It works- it's fastish for previewing clips, but a buggy solution at best. I'm real suprised VLC doesn't open it because it will open ANYTHING. That's probably a codec away.

To change WMP to automatically play MXF files for viewing (without audio) when you double click on a MXF file . . .
In Windows Explorer, go
tools
folder options
file types
find (or add with "new") MXF extension
click change
scroll down to select Windows Media Player
click ok
click ok again to close
after this any time you double click on an MXF file it will play in WMP.
This will not affect on how the files are seen or managed by Xpress Pro HD, RayLight, or Broadcast.

MXF to WMV with WM Encoder 9 but no audio

MXF to WMV with WM Encoder 9 but no audio

I was able to encode MXF into WMV with WM Encoder 9, but no audio.
Do have any suggestions how to convert the 4 MXF audio tracks?
Thanks

No, not to play simultaneously with the video in WMP. I was just responding to the title of the thread. "Any way at all to view MXF footage on computer?" It works great for that--P2Viewer crashes after each clip on my workstation (but works as expected on my laptop).

I was going to buy HD LOG, it looked like a great product. However, after finding it had a Hardware DONGLE as copy protection I decided to forget about it. I will not support any company that considers me a thief as I buy their product. Guilty until proven innocent is not a good PR campaign. They can kiss my $800 bucks goodbye for that move. Wow, that dongle didn't work quite right did it?
