FS: REAL CRAPPY Tripod: Bogen 3246 with 501 head

Okay, well, not proud of this one: a 3246 tripod together with a 501 BOGEN/Manfrotto video head for sale.

501:
This is NOT a fluid head; it's friction head. It's about the cheapest half-decent thing out there. NOTHING to write home about for sure, but it gets acceptable results, providing the cam isn't too heavy.

3246:
The tripod is NOT GOOD for video, as this is a geared column tripod. This means you can't level the head, as you would like to, and as most tripods do (the good ones use an adjustable ball to quickly level the tripod head, once the tripod is placed on the ground: well, THIS one doesn't, and you'd have to level it, by adjusting one of the leg's height: that gets annoying REAL soon!)

THE ONE thing that would make this tripod system work MUCH MUCH MUCH better, would be the addition of this nifty device (a compact Levelling Head - Ball Camera Leveller):

(I think this would fit, no guarantees!)

This combo, 3246 and 501 sells new for $380:

Tripod alone:

Head alone:

Condition:
Well used, in good working condition. Head is as smooth as it can be (whatever THAT means!)

Actually on second thought, maybe we should GIVE you money to take it off our hands?
Nah, let's say $184.00 shipped to anywhere in USA (ground).
It's NOT a good combo, but you CAN get some work done with it, and at less than half new price, and shipped, it's an okay deal. There's GOT to be someone out there wanting this cra...I mean, this tripod, yes?

LMAO   What a salesman. Well, no one can ever say you're not honest about what you're selling. I'm sure there will be a buyer for this, considering the other options at $184.00

I used a 501 head on my hero fest film... I didn't realize it wasn't a "fluid head" since it was SOOOO much smoother than my $30 tripod from Wal Mart :)

I can't imagine how nice a "fluid head" would be. I may be interested in this...depends on whether or not I get paid for my side job tomorrow or not. I'll check back with you Thursday if I get paid.

Yes Blaine, it would be better than what I've got and better than what I can get for that price (considering I don't have more than that)

Hehe, yeah, I know, I left the salesman hat at home! :)

yeah, it's really not THAT bad, and served me well for a while. It's the lack of levelling that got to me (but that levelling head should solve that).
The 501 is a HUGE HUGE step up from the walmart stuff, that is very true. heck I did some DECENT pans with a 501 and a DVX.

In fact, in reading back through your description...I think the tripod I used was on the same set of sticks also....so I'm familiar with it already and really liked it (remember I'm coming from a WalMart $30 special  ).

Ok...I'll check back in a couple days and see if anyone has "snatched it up" yet!

Hmm..now I am trying to think why tripods for still cameras would not have levelling gizmos too.

Anyway yeha, gotta give vidled points for honesty. That was funny

Damn, and I had no problems with my 501. Maybe I should go back to drinking.

Well, the funny thing is, the 501 is "okay" providing the cam isn't too heavy; this combo head/tripod is just awkward; that's all.
The 501 on some nice sticks is perfectly "okay" (until you try a Bogen 526 fluid head with a big cam, then you go out and sell you car, remortgage your house, or otherwise find means to enrich yourself, and place an order with B&H! :))

Dude, I was laughing for a minute straight after reading that post. You're one funny dude. I may be interested in the head. Need a second head to run my crane. Are you interested in selling just that? Tim.

Nah, it's ESPECIALLY the sticks is what I want to get rid of!
Selling just the head would still leave me with the sticks, and I am not sure they'd fit into our garbage bin! :)

But if someone wanted the sticks, it would work.

Hiro/Slimothy:

Okay, I ran some numbers (that sounds so used-car-salesperson'ish!):

Head: $95.00 incl. shipping
Sticks: $115.00 incl. shipping

(the keen observer will notice that that does NOT add up to the $184.00: that is because of added shipping/packing and stuff.)

There must be reverse psychology at work here. I find myself WANTING to buy this tripod, so I can shoot some great footage and say, "See? I did all that with those crappy sticks." :)

Looks like the head and sticks are now spoken for.

My condolences to the new owners! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
