Matt: something you said here in '04

Well there's your answer then pdog... that makes the CS3e sound like the best choice for a shotgun... good size sweet spot and total rejection of everything else... what more could you want? That's why I say it's probably the best tool for the job even if (my own opinion) I like the overall sound of the mkh60 better. (and I'm probably in the minority on that)

Matt, before I jump: we're still saying that any of these high-end mics, in any normal indoor/outdoor situation, will be at least somewhat better than a ME66 in the same situation?

Time to post some more clips me thinks.

For everything subjective it's so hard to have a lighthearted discussion... I'll tell you this; even if you do not improve your technique AT ALL you will still notice a gigantic improvement in the quality of your audio with simply trading that me66 in on an AT 4073a or better.

Check out the new thread... there's my akg ck69 from about 4-5' away... running on 60' of wire (a 20' and 30' plugged together) back to my cam that's about 40something feet away... for this buddy I didn't feel like jacking around with really doing the sound right... he called me at the last minute and asked if I could come out and shoot his wedding. I wasn't going to run the mixer and digital recorder and all that... and all I did is gaffer my mic up in the trellis... really too far away... I would NEVER try to boom from that high overhead... and yet check it out when the bride thinks she's whispering so that nobody can hear! Phil was talking about how you can hear so much when you're running sound... I was laughing because nobody else could hear all this... I decided not to include the talk about pee'ing. New thread posted.

Matt, others: what's your opinion of that T.H.E. hyper and their mics in general? The price is reasonable, anyway.

I really like the T.H.E. hyper... I like it a lot. Did you know that I got one of those? That'd be a heck of a coincidence if you asked that and didn't know... I got the KA-04 body with the KR-3H hyper cap.

I guess I really need to post some clips from this mic. It's like my AKG hyper, but without the sizzle at the top (in a good way)... or you could say that it's like a way more sensitive and detailed Oktava... Honestly I think it's a nice mic at the price... I really need to use it more so I can post the results. The reason I don't use it as much as I could is because I shoot a lot of risky (to equipment)... charity... run 'n gun... or favor video. In all those situations I either use the Oktava because I consider them to be nearly disposable, or I use my AKG system because I can bring 3 patterns of mic in one bag and swap 'em out quickly. In the clips that I've posted in the "crack a beer and enjoy" thread... especially the one's with Dumell talking... do you hear the "s" sizzle in his voice? The sibilance? That wouldn't have been there with the T.H.E. mic.

For me the T.H.E. kind of shows me what things may be like if I got a Schoeps... I think for the kind of shooting that I do I wouldn't use it as much as I could because I'd always worry about it too much.

Gimme a day or two... and all I'll be able to post is really amature stuff like video of myself because I don't have anything scheduled this week... but I'll show you what the T.H.E. mic is all about.

So, it's not that the THE is particularly fragile, but you just don't want to take the risk?

I saw it in your list of what you own, and it stood out as a brand I'd never heard of. Visited their site, and really like their approach. Reminded me a little of another small, smart company, Blue Jeans Cable (makes great alternatives to pricey cables like Monster.)

Anyway, this shows I've been paying attention...I realize that with most of my shooting indoor dialog/interviews, shotguns don't make much sense.

I'm trying to figure out if you guys are having fun with a psychological game with me... or wanting to trick me into taking a more serious, business approach to the cables that I've been making?

This is the second time that Blue Jeans Cable has been brought up and they sell a totally inferior cable to the ones I make for nearly twice the price. What gives? Why are people talking about this place?

All I can say is, the HDMI cable I bought from them is as good as I needed, and a good price. Before ordering, I read lots of positive comments about their products.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing.
I now really do think you are just too inexpensive. Most people are HARDENED to the fact that if something seems to good to be true, then....

How'd THEY know that with your stuff IT REALLY IS TRUE, and you get top quality at low price??!!!??

Thanks for the reminder though. I've been meaning to place an order for more cables from Matt. Seriously, I don't know why anyone here would consider another source for XLR cables unless it's an emergency or something. Matt's workmanship and material are tops plus he'll make them to the length you want and color-coded too.

I haven't been trying to push this and maybe my memory is failing, but I thought Tigeba bought some cables from me a while back... I guess maybe not... so anyway, when I saw him talking about cheap cables that cost nearly twice what I've been charging I nearly fainted.

No big deal... it's all good.:)

I have had a infamous "Matt cable" for several months now. "I love it!" (a quote you can put on a website if you do that :) ). As long as he keeps making 'em I will be buying all my future cables from Matt.

From what I have seen of the quality of his other DIY products I would buy my next cell phone from him if he made them. Seriously, great workmanship and so cheap you feel guilty.

I'm sorry, what was the topic of this thread? :undecided
