HVX200 vs Canon XL H1

I dont want to start any war,(sadly I will), but I really wanted a Canon XL H1... It seem really the best camera on the market. I had my eyes on the XL1 and XL2 for years and told myself not to switch until HD in 1080 progressive is available.

You can imagined I was pissed when I saw the HVX200 ! I had to loan 25k so far !!! :) I had no choice to buy it, it did progressive. But the Canon XL H1 always stayed in my mind, because of lower noise, higher res, shoulder mount and look prettier.

But now, after 2 month or so of HVX200 experience, and visiting HVX200 and XL H1 forum, I'll rest in peace about my choices. People on the XL H1 forum always have trouble with the recording format, cheap stock lens, audio... But when I look the HVX200, it mostly P2 issues because of more computer skilled required(but in the end, it not a problem for me, and can only be a good things for everyone else to learn those skill).

The only thing I wish my HVX200 was is less noises, 600fps, bigger and cheaper P2 Card, and a modular camera (like red) so you can just remove the expensive core of camera easily and put it into another frame with shoulder mount and eye level view finder ;)

So I want to thanks the users of this forum for helping me not go with the XL H1

Another war about cameras?

The P2/computer problems are a non-issue once you learn how it's done.

You know my biggest problem (after waiting for Cineform to be released) was figuring out how send P2 files to my computer through the USB2 connection.

You hold the camera/vcr button down for more than 5 Seconds, by the way.

Exactly, I use my P2 Store as my P2 reader and I use my Laptop PCMCIA to read from it also.

The thing that piss me off with the camera USB2 connection, is if you try to copy both P2 Card at the same time, it failed with a error message... Has to restart everything

I too was interested initially in the canon. I loved my XL1 and GL1 and then the XL2... all except for the terrible stock lens... which once again they put on the new HD canon.

Personally, I think it's really getting shelled in sales... and doesn't really seem to produce anything on the level with the HVX IMHO. 9K is what I spent on my HVX with 2 p2 cards, p2store, 5 batteries, bag, Filters, 4 chargers.... and never having to buy tape again: PRICELESS.

I think the war over cameras has passed... as well as the myth about the horrible noise... and whatever else has come up... Now, it's about picking the cam that does the job and just be happy that you don't have to shoot in DV anymore! Yuck to that!

I just drag and drop each P2 card on my drive seperately into different folders.

My P2 Store caught me by surprise, too. It makes like 6 drive names; one for each P2 card stored on it. I've got a lot of Hard drives and I'm lucky I didn't run out of names.
