Horror Comedies like Evil Dead/Dead Alive etc

Why are these movies so few? The Evil Dead triliogy is possibly one of the best Horror/Comedies (arguabilly) ever made. And Peter Jackson's Dead Alive (Brain Dead) is pure Genus. Are there any other lesser known movies like this? And why is this genre so under used?

p.s. Scary Movie doesn't count, it's spoofs and just plain immature stupidy.

Because there are few directors who can pull these movies off intelligently.

Most of the time the end result is not an Evil Dead or Dead alive but the kind of garbage you can find in the bargain bin.

What about Shaun of the Dead?
Interesting that the funniest gorefests all have Dead in the title.
Personally I think the reason why so few movies ever work as INTENTIONAL horror comedies is the lack of energy.
Evil Dead 2 (I assume thats the one you are talking about since 1 is pretty straight) has so much crazy energy from the actors, the fxs, down to the camera work.
Dead Alive is inspired from Evil Dead so it obviously carries the same energy.
Without the energy you'd have a movie full of plot holes and obvious mistakes.
Evil Dead 2 Examples: Visible set in the chase through the cabin. Visible wire on flying eyeball.
Dead Alive Examples: A baby zombie... conceived and born in about a day. Plus the entire "day in the park" scene with said baby.

You can probably add Jackson's first film Bad Taste in to the pile as well. More scifi than horror but still filled with tons of gore and laughs.

I have fond memories of Idle Hands.

But anyways, I'm thinking a lot of horror movies are in theis subcategory, but you just don't want them to be, because they're horrible. Have you ever seen "Terror Toons?"

http://imdb.com/title/tt0324213/

Jesus man... just.... Jesus.... That's two hours i'll never get back from watching, and about two years i'll never get back from thinking about how freaking bad it was.

By the by, i have said it a million times, but shaun of the dead rocks.

Nothing cooler than just bad horror; great over the top acting, competent filmmaking ...

Night of the Creeps
April Fool's Day
They Live
The Return of the Living Dead
An American Werewolf In London
City of the Living Dead
Fright Night 1 and 2
Night of the Demon's
Re-Animator

I totally would be stoked making a living doing straight to DVD horror film's.

I love Horror movies. Lets see what can I add.
Uzumaki
Suspiria
Evil Dead Trap
It Lives
301/302
Meet The Feebles
Little Otik
Body Parts
Save the Green Planet

To name a few not mentioned.

Suspiria? Comedy?

I dont think so.

Don't forget Bride of Re-Animator. Kinda lame, but it has its moments.

How about Brain Dead and Frankenhooker?

Basket Case doesn't really belong in there because it's more dark, but it's tempting to put it there because it's so damn ridiculous.

Street Trash has some funny scenes in it, but it generally resembles the ultra low budget stuff from Troma like Class of Nuke 'em High, Surf Nazi's Must Die, and The Toxic Avenger. They have their moments, but usually the comedy is really bad.

would you consider Labryinth (i can't spell) for this category? I would, i mean, any movie with David Bowie with giant hair and UNSIGHTLY tight tights on is a comedic horror film to me.

I don't know if this counts as a horror comedy, but have you guys seen Bubba Ho-Tep?

Really really neat flick.

if you wanna see a fun movie that is a splatter comedy, check out Jake West's "Evil Aliens", i downloaded it in divx to watch as it's not released in Canada/U.S. yet but it's quite over the top. It's got a scene that's a total homage to Dead Alive.

It should count. The DVD cover says it's horror. :)

How about vampire flicks like Love At First Bite?

Ooo. Ooo. How about Saturday The 14th?

Yeah. OK. Lame. But I like the title. :)
