Anyone have a RedRock Follow Focus yet?

I hear its finally shipping, so anyone got one and feel like writing a mini-review? I know that I for one would appreciate it, as I'm sure many others would as well.

One of my good friends just got the redrock follow focus in. we took it out
for a spin. It does exactly what its suppose to. I don't really know what else to say
he likes it. I would be more excited if it was a little bit cheaper.

We were fortunate to have used two of them for a short film shot June 3rd with two Redrock M2 adapters. 1st and 2nd AC were able to make their marks very easily. Gearing only for slr lenses and not available yet for the oem lense, however it was smooth and accurate.

I'll have a full report in the news section.

I have been playng with the Redrock follow focus for the last couple of days.

Thoughts?

PERFECT! For only $499 I was expecting a cheap clone follow focus with as many corners cut as possible to make as much profit as possible. How wrong could I have been?

The FF is made of metal and has been designed to work perfectly with 35mm lenses for the M2, as well as being able to fit straight on to the HVX200. The FF comes with 4 lens rings of varying sizes ( you choose which ones you want) and these fit onto my 35mm Nikon lenses in less than a minute. From there it only takes a couopleof minutes to have the whole ff setup and ready to use.

Results have been excellent, with perfect, spot on repeatability every time.

When you compare the price of this FF with the Arri one, it is a no brainer. all I need to purchase now is a whip, and I hear RedRock are bring one out soon.

I will try and get a few pics up later.

Best $499 I have spent in a long time.

Will the Redrock FF work with the HVX's lens too or only with the M2/35mm lens combos? It doesn't appear the rings that ship with it are large enough to fit around the builtin lens.

Just to clarify - the question is really "will the redrock lens gears fit the HVX?"

The microFollowFocus is a standard 0.8/32 pitch gear drive (film gearing) and fits standard 15mm rods. We prioritized a flexible gearing system for 35mm still lenses. The HVX is a bit larger, and we are coming out with a gear for that in mid-summer.

Thanks

Brian

I swear I've posted these twelve times already. Man I love this setup. I guess I'm just a big ol' camera nerd!

willl it work on film primes?

Yes - provided the lens gearing is 0.8/32 pitch (we will be coming out with more drive gear pitches in the future, but that's what we have now). For smaller lenses such as Zeiss you can simply gear them with our lens gears as shown here:

The lens gears are a patented design - pretty cool. as you tighten the gears onto the lenses, the feet adjust to the lens' diameter automatically, which gives it a solid, all-around grip.

I'm confused on pricing. Didn't Brian say several times that it would be under $500? On the Red Rock store it is listed as $645. Can someone please explain this to me.
