temptations of a beautiful camera

(well in image atleast, the cameras a bit fuggly)

I'm going to get a dvx pretty soon, right before school starts up, so i can work on the final project. The problem is that in the mean time, i visit b&h almost daily because its a block away from my internship. Everytime i'm there i tinker with the dvx for a couple minutes, and then migrate over to the hd100 and marvel in the beautiful image of this damn camera.

It's really starting to seem like i want this more, but for my needs it's so impractical, pricewise, setup-wise, i'm not ready to work in hd. But the demand for HD is getting bigger everyday.

Anyone care to justify leaning one way to another. I think that if i went HD i would definitely want this rather than the hvx200 or the z1u.

I'm just afraid of getting the DVX and having serious buyer's remorse.

Buyer's remorse from a DVX ? How's that ?

One is HD while the other is SD. Do you prefer Apples or Oranges ?

Are you ready for the leap to HD ? Are your skills going to warrant it ? Or are you going to have a bunch of silly learning shorts that have really crystal imagery ?

Get the hvx or the hd100. Both will give a better SD image than a dvx.

Search ebay for a barely used one if you're pressed for cash.

I would go for it and get the HD camera. It's like the story I heard of a man who wanted a Rolls Royce. Everday he dreamed of a Rolls Royce and thought to himself if only I could afford a Rolls Royce. Then he found a Rolls Royce. It was 30 years old but it was in mint condition and was the same price as a brand new car. He immediately fell in love with the car but then he thought to himself what about the gas milege and what about the repairs. How am I gong to find parts for this car and of course it is not practical because it does not have a warranty like a brand new car. So he ended up buying a good brand new car instead of the Rolls Royce even though he really wanted the Rolls Royce because the brand new car was more practical.

I have this doubts two months ago but finally i felt in love with the "16mm look" of the HD100. Moreover here in Spain the used cam market it's almost nonexistent.

I made an economic effort and now i'm enjoying this WONDERFUL cam (despite his issues. Watch the footage available there and judge by yourself)

No, wait i dont follow the moral of that at all.

I dunno, i've stretched so far already just to get to the point of being able to obtain the dvx. The extra couple grand.... I might be sticking with sd for the moment. My practical new car...

If you're going with the DVX, please do get the latest DVX100B bundle, the one that adds InstantHD. Look at it this way, in a couple of years, you can upgrade to the Andromeda system for HD.

I must admit, the HVX200 or HD100U would ultimately be the easier buy. But if you can't afford it, then you can't afford it, simple as that. Plus, by next year's time, who knows what new cameras will be lurking about in your ideal price range. :)
