BMW Fan Film update... With video!

Hi everyone,
Maybe you saw this post a little while back, but if you didn't it is regarding a BMW Films fan film sorta thing I am working on. The good news is, I have something to show for it. The bad news is, the producer/driver/actor up and joined the army while this thing is 1/3 shot. So now it is either done for or on hold until next year when he will have leave. Now, this is NOT the finished product, but I was working on my editing reel and put this together while I was at it, from what I have. Consider it an abreviated, condensed version with most, but not all the shots of this particular sequence in place. There is supposed to be more to it (enough for a story) but here we go anyway! Enjoy!

I expected something a little more exciting... It's only 2 minutes.. of driving.. eh.. I don't know... sort of expected a dialouge scene or something. I was hope for some en medias res.

I know you're not finished, but forgive me for saying: "BOOOOOORIIIING!"

Sorry, but I will say that the camera work and the editing were very good.

One minor complaint: the interior shots were bright and warm, while the exterior shots were cold and dark, it didn't match. Maybe CC can help, but I wonder how much.

Wow, I am honestly itching to take the plunge and pick one of those rigs up. Yes I can see how it might be boring, but I'm sure he put this video up more to demonstrate what kind of shots he took than anything. Just how fast did you get with the cam on the rig, and how much do you trust it? I'd love to know more. Thanks!

Serif,

You got some good footage. I was impressed with your rig when I first saw it. I think my favorite shots were the couple in which the camera and the car were moving, sometimes at different speeds, so the car drifted towards or away from the camera, especially on curves. It was so fluid. Beautiful. I am a bif fan of the BMW films (especially WKW's), and this aspect was beautiful in those, and it's cool to see that somewhat on a low budget can get the same effect.

Constructive crit: What bothered me was some inconsistencies between shots. There was a lot of underexposure and overexposure, as well as color balance problems that detracted a bit.

Another problem was the shadows of the trees. You might cut from a wide shot where there was a clearing and thus a lot of sun, to a very dark shot with trees passing by inside the car. It just didn't flow right, to me.

Also, would have liked to see shots composed a little tighter. Everything was a bit too wide for my tastes. Always makes it seem a lot home movie to me.

Keep up the good work, I'd love to see more. You can get some good cheap tracks from productiontrax.com. I'd love to see it with some music, I'm sure that would really enhance the experience.

Yeah, I really see what you mean about it being boring, Robot. I think I will try cutting out some of the strait aways. Also, I agree about the color discrepencies. I did just a hair of CC on that, trying to warm up the exteriors a bit, but I think I will try cooling the interiors.

Advantech, at the fastest, we were going round about 80 miles per hour. For the more dangerous shots (like the cam over the front corner or with a chase cam) we kept it to about 60 mph. The speed is really diminished on camera, which is kinda dissapointing. Makes it look a lot more liesurely than it was.

Thanks for the input all.
