MiniDV airport travel

Are there any precautions I should take in traveling via airplane with MiniDV tapes? Are they safe to carry through security/x-ray machines?

When in doubt, ask for hand inspection of tapes. That being said, x-rays only affect silver based film, not video tape.

MiniDV tapes have been traveling all over the world and there should be no problems at all.
I carry them onto the plane (as opposed to check them) but that's because I don't want to loose them mainly.

I second vidled. I traveled with them all over the world, even in third world countries, never had a problem. But I ALWAYS CARRIED THEM WITH ME.

You really don't have to fear for your equipment, as far as the X-Ray is concerned; with the exception of film of more than 800 ISO.

Wow...so where are we all going with our gear? Anywhere cool? I'm headed up to Montana on Sunday. I'm gonna try to keep the camera rolling while I get attacked by a bear.

xrays are ok.
if u can, avoid bringing the tapes through the magnetic doors though.

Even the magnetic doors' magnetic fields are several orders of magnitude too weak to affect DV tapes.

Where are we heading to?

Where are we heading to?

I'm off to Seldovia to film the Seldovia Music Festival. Seldovia is a tiny town out in Katchemak Bay in Alaska. A boatride out of Homer. Should be fun.
