Sweet footage, I'm 16 also and just got my DVX about a month ago. How long have you had yours?
One question about the vid, for some of the shots where the camera was moving, were you using a dolly, or just moving or some kinda a stabilizer or what?

why does a 16 year old need a demo reel?

To show his/her work, in order to get more work... why else?

I think it looks good, regardless of your age. The transition from basketball to soccer ball was nice, CC looked good (some places stronger than others), and some of the shots were also stronger some places than others, but that's expected.

Beer bottle shot was nice; where the skater kid "winks" at the camera, just before the cut to the "cement creation" was awesome;

I'd lose the driving shot of the buildings/sidewalk about half way through; maybe the "bum" shot; cut down the skating footage; and tighten the entire thing up a bit. Also, use some more transitions... I saw the flash of light transition I think, but needs more in my opinion. When cutting from one particular "scene" to another, use another flash of light transition (if on FCP, use the G glow dissolve).

Nice job... you should be proud of it.

i gotta admit, I was waiting for this to load, ready to rip you apart (too many small children running around here trying to pimp the most horrible footage you've seen)...

but that looked really nice :) doesn't show off your lighting that much, but your CC skills are very tight. in fact a lot of it looked better than my stuff, check it out when you get a chance: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=59571

nothing HIT me as something you need to take out, but tighter is always better, your call. the only thing you DO HAVE TO DO is get that file smaller. 30mb is reasonable for something twice as long and twice the screen size.

props though

cheese sailor i checked out your films already and i like most of them.. my favorite one was of the zombies where the husband keeps his wife in the basement it was good

ive had my dvx since january and i love it, the dolly shots were in the back of an suv, except the one of guy in the bed which was me in a wheelchair as a friend pushed me, the rest were on a skateboard

Such discouraging words.

Yeah this is taking a decade to load, but pay him no mind. I wish I was shooting video when I was 16 :crybaby:

I'm no expert but - here's 2 cents: Nice job. Good shots / angles. Good moving shots / glides - while still being focused / aimed at main subject. Clean transitions. Good balance / composition within frame of shots. Nice, rich colors (DVX 24 p mode?). It might be nice to hear some of what's going on - added to - or in place of background music. You might consider alternate versions with some high-energy music.

16yrs olds own DVXs!.... damn I waited so long till i could afford one. just got like 2 weeks ago.
I'll agree i would have like one at 16 too!

anyway... busy downloading your reel sounds like it should be good. looking forward!

Firstly, great job! and even better job because of your age

I'm actually very proud of you for having such a mature and professional demo reel at your age man. Keep going! By the time your older your stuff will be even more advanced and probably surpass many who started at a much later age. And keep us posted!

I love seeing fellow film makers who are really passionate about their work!

thanks everyone, i am real dedicated to film making and hope to make a good career out of it. I'm nothing like most people my age, all the kids at my school just want to go out and drink and smoke and do nothing productive. Some students from full sail did a documentary on me recently about being a young film maker and i'll post it as soon as a get a compressed version
