Any HVX owners in Denver?

I think you mean HVX. Otherwise I guess you would be in the wrong forum :) You of course are welcome to hang with the HVX crowd :)

Went and saw Former Mayor Rudy Julliani (spelling?) And also Former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell. THE LIST GOES ONE..... It was fun, I wish I would have been allowed to bring my HVX :)

I'm in Denver. I don't own a HVX right now, but we'll be buying a couple for a feature we are shooting this summer. We're doing a camera test on June 9th, and want to test a P+S Mini35 adapter and a M2 adapter. I can probably rent the mini35 adapter from Film Video, I don;t know if they have the proper adapter for the HVX though, so I might have to rent one from out of state. Does anyone locally have an M2 adapter? We can't order one in time for the test, and we want to do a comparison.

JFirestone:

I don't know of anyone with an M2 (in Denver) but I'd be curious how that goes. I'll ask around too.
Do you have a plan-in-place for dealing with the inverted image? I realize it's a newbie question, I've just never used one before......

The inverted image is definitely an issue, as is light loss. We won't be shooting the feature until mid August, so we have time to deal with these issues.

I'm in Arvada (Northwest of Denver, Northeast of Golden) Just got my HVX Friday from Full Compass. Contacted Shawn Tallard (x1152) at the recommendation of some others on this board. Was only going to get 1 4 Gig P2 card, but I found a Production special with the camera and 2 8 Gig cards that was hard to beat. I felt really taken care of by Shawn. Knows his stuff, asks questions about my needs but no hard upsell.

This is my first Pro camera purchase so I've been a bit nervous about putting out that much money. Read this board for about a week before deciding that HVX was the way to go over the rest. Thanks for being such a great group here.

I sure hope that there will be at least a couple of informal gatherings for Denver area users, even if a bonafied user group isn't created.

Congrats on the purchase! I'd be curious how much the camera/2 8 gig's ended up total. I haven't worked with Full Compass before. Their website leans towards the 'request-a-quote' side which is fine. Just curious. Enjoy......

I'm in Longmont, and I'll second the vote for GW Hannaway. They are awesome there, and have been a big help to me. I've rented from them, and plan on buying an HVX there when I grow some balls.

For Cinemaniac, who's having trouble with HVX on the Steadicam Merlin: try http://www.merlincookbook.com/. There you will find the right settings for your camera.

I have a HVX 200 with P2 Store and 4 gig P2 cards plus a DVX 100B. The cameras will be at the Longmont airport this weekend which is just north of Denver. The cameras will be used to film the 2006 Air Festival which will include Rocketman, parachute demonstrations, wingsuit flyers (birdman) and more! NBC will also be on location to shoot the event...

I was really bumbed not to see any HVX users at the Dragon Boat Festial Saturday.. Man you guys missed out. I will have footage up in the footage section I think we need to keep this thread active, so we can have a little HVX entourage at local events. There were 4 dvx's and one XL1s, and chanel 4 and one HVX. ME....

I would like to see that footage. Keep us posted!

Funny that you managed to get the head count - "4 dvx's and one XL1s, and chanel 4 and one HVX".

My only hope is you took some sticks. Lot of people posting footage seem to forget the tripod because the DVX / HVX 's are so light.

Having said that, I'm sure it looks amazing regardless.

Cant forget my Vinten Carbon Fiber sticks :) Of course did some handheld as well, trying to get used to it... I'll let you know when it is up

I am shooting the Josh Blue (Last Comic Standing) show at the Gothic August 11. 4 HVX-200's and using Firestores. We're short one Firestore, we have Ceavco's 1 and Dean's 2. Any ideas? Wish Serious's HVD Rack was out...

Might not be your ideal scenario but have you thought about leaving one camera free for iso's / audience chase / backstage over-the-shoulders? Just let a camera guy go wild with a P2 Store and a card runner / wrangler. Use its lightwieght and card-swapping to your advantage. He or someone else could be one step ahead of the shooter with sticks too.

It's just an option. You should be able to trust campera ops for continuous coverage from 3 cameras. If not, you got bigger concerns than finding a Firestore.

I'd love to help if you need any.

Hi All,
You've got another owner in Colorado Springs. I popped for mine last week.
Cheers,

Who's free the 19th (Saturday) or 20th (Sunday) of August? I propose a Denver gathering, with apologies to the Colorado Springs folks. We could go a little further south, maybe Littleton area if that makes it easier for those much further.
