Local :30 TV spot with HVX-200

We just shot a local TV ad for an appliance and TV chain with our new HVX-200. The spot was down-converted to SD for broadcast. Here's the link:

A few people have posted questions about how the HVX would handle commercial shoots. I must say that the workflow was quite simple and I think that HVX will make an excellent tool for local cable spots.

Great job! Was that the hvx's undercrank work with the people on the side at the end on the split screens? The camera has a great workflow once you get use to it. Again good job

nice spot! how did you deliver to TV station/Client? did you downconvert the HD timelapse and work in DVCPRO 50?

I think we'll see a lot more spots done locally with the big bertha.

Well, THAT depends entirely on which part of the country..... and which country!
I think most here still use Ikegami Saticon tube cams!
:)

NICE spot, Gatorlover; well done!

Yes. We shot the middle at 24fps and used the hard edges of walls to composite the shot. The outside were shot on interval frame mode, I believe 1f every 16fs.

Cable companies and broadcast stations down here (East Central Florida) only insert SD spots for now. So we shot mostly 720p 24pn HD, imported the footage into a DVCPRO HD FCP 5 timeline, cut the spot, copied and pasted the HD timeline into a DVCPRO 50 timeline and added the graphics. The spot was delivered on Beta SP.

Shooting in HD still provides a lot more quality though, even when it's going to be downconverted. Just like a commerical shot on 35mm will look better than a commercial shot with a DVX-100 in 24p even though both would be broadcasted in SD.

I know, ironic isn't it? That's because none of the cable companies or broadcast stations in East Central Florida insert spots on HD.
