any hvx people in Boston?

I'm just NW of Boston and picked up an HVX 200 during NAB. I really haven't had a chance to play around with it as I've been on other jobs...and I don't have cards yet. But I'm looking forward to pushing this camera to it's limits. Always happy to discuss.

cool, I'm in Cambridge. look forward to chatting once you have more time. I got mine a few weeks ago and it has been a blast learning.

I'm originally from NH.. living in FL, but I'll be up in Boston shooting some stuff in July. Hope it's nice weather and that the chowder is flowing through streets... love that darn seafood!

are you shooting the fireworks over the charles for the fourth? always love going down and listening to the Pops on the Esplanade!

I live in Boston and I've been doing some shooting with the HVX on a variety of shoots, would love to compare footage, notes, experiences, techniques etc. with other HVX shooters in the area, maybe even get together and do some tests and experiments. Get two or more HVX cameras together in one place and who knows what might happen. I'm easy to reach, my contact information is on my web site (URL in signature).

Man... that might be awesome. Where could you do it from? How crazy would the parking be? Permiting issues?

I would be up for getting together, especially once I have gotten Barry Green's book. I workshop a script at the Actor's Workshop on summer st in Boston and know the owner. If we can get a lot of folks together I could get the place for $50 for 3 hours. Or, if not many, on a nice day we can go guerilla style on the common.

I'm certainly interested in getting together with a group of users and mining the collective experience as well as experimenting with the limits of this camera. If we get an indoor space...I can supply lighting gear for creating setups for playing with latitude etc. Let's push this baby and see what it can do.

So, let's figure out what we're going to do, and when we can do it, and what we'd like to accomplish. I'm very interested in the ins and outs of P2 workflow and editing issues at this time, though I have a background that includes cinematography. Something that involves timecode sync of two or more cameras is one thing I'd like to take for a spin.

We could all get together at a bar for an initial meeting...have a drink and compare notes and make more definate plans. Summer Shack at Alewife (on the red line) has a pretty big bar to spread out in. I like the idea of the Actors Workshop but first we need to know how many folks are interested and who wants to shell out some cash for a space. If we can get an edit system into the space as well as cameras etc. it may be well worth it. I'm interested in the workflow issues as well but primarily I'm a DP and would like to get to know this cameras abilities inside out. I can be contacted through the info on my site:

Hey, I've got an idea, we should plan a fun project we could do together in a short shooting day and have it be an ad for HVX200, a P2 workflow case study and tutorial, and HVX shooting comparing notes all wrapped up into one...

Here's a pitch for one possible idea: it's a parody of the latest Apple ads, except that the two characters come on the screen and say, "Hi, I'm an HVX," oh, hi, and "I'm a Z1U", and the image of the Z1U character is all interlaced with interlaced tearing and MPEG artifacts and the HVX is all clean and progressive....

That's cool. I'm originally from the Boston-area and plan to go visit again soon. You guys should form a Boston HVX200 User Group like I did in LA.

I am up for grabbing a drink as an initial meeting. I don't have an editing system as of yet, but would love to hang and learn the workflow. (edius or FCP) If you want to shoot something, I have access to actors. I'm surprised that there is only 3 of us so far, if we do get more, the workshop has a ton of space. I heard that a few months ago they had an HVX workshop over at Rule Broadcast. There must be a bunch more of us in Boston..

Hey Justyn-didn't know you were from NH. Pretty cool.

I'm originally from MA myself (Lawrence). It's funny to see so many people from MA and how they have spread across so many states!

Fun fact: Luke and Owen Wilson's parents are originally from MA.

Ah, memories of Sterns Ave . . .

You've been gone a long time, G-Man. Was it 1995 that you left for Florida? I left about 5 years later.
