i remember the day when an "actor" used to have "act" in movies, tv, etc, to be called an "actor". i live in ny and every other monkey that goes to nyu or works as a waiter astoundingly carries the connotation "actor".

my cynicism aside, you made a great clip.

ps i am a waiter. i'm not an actor until i have acted in something that will be seen by more than a few dozen friends.:)

That was a sweet video! I always loved that bright flash inbetween cuts. How do you achieve this effect? I can get something close to it but just have a burst of brightness/contrast but how do you do it? There were some awesome cuts. did you record him going down that stairs like multiple times to achieve that? to make it seem like there were more than one camera. I'm guessing you did, but just curious. Sweet video.

I'll second that, Everdene. You made him one heck-uva piece for $50. Nice work - good composition, nice glurs. Also... what is the name of that first song?

Yeah. It looked awesome, but it had nothing to do with acting. Unless ofcourse he was auditioning for a pilot about a guy who could throw a football to himself. This says more about the 'actor' than the filmmaker. If it was for modeling, sure. But I wouldn't cast the guy based on that. I'd hire the filmmaker though.

not sure i completely agree with that

ive been an actor since i was 8, why do i call myself an actor, well the same reason someone calls themself an artist, because thats what he or she is.

a professional actor, on the other hand, of course when you get that title its that its your profession and you are a paid professional.

Ive been doing theatre more heavily for the passed 4 years and film recently, do i concider myself an actor? absoltuely, hvae i had a paying job? one, will i get more? dunno, still an actor.

now, bout the actor

cant really tell how the dude acts or anything about him except he could be a model.
some dialogue or something voiced over might have been cool.

But on your part? EXCELLENT. very very very impressed. Great job!

I think I have to say, that everyone in his drama class had the task to make a self portrait about him/herself within one minute and without any speech, just music. He just had to represent himself, not as an actor who can play different roles, but as his character in real life.
I used the fact that he plays alot of american football to make it a big part in the self portrait.

The music... the first song has the title "ooh wee" and it is taken out of the motion picture soundtrack of "honey".

The shooting took us 2 1/2 hours (11 am - 1:30pm)
The post production took me 4 hours (2pm - 6pm)

The effect is easy to learn but hard to master, you just have to work with contrast and brightness in connection with keyframes. It's hard to explain, how to do it - I might make a video tutorial, cause there were people who wondered how to do this several films ago as well ( MatCreep )

:dankk2: for your comments

This is a great marketing tool for any actor looking to be seen. A DVD the actor can give out at an audition or a link on his headshot to this video is just another arrow in the arsenal.

I'll second the modeling comment above. It would be great if he had an actor or ingénue to play off of for a few seconds of dialogue.

This reel looks great in every way from coverage to cutaways, color and composition to editorial choices you made. Once he lands a paying job, he definitely owes you a pint.

the best thing an actor can have in this case is a demo reel as opposed to a moving photo album.

Generally one wants to have as many of the actors works that show his or her ability. Nothing longer than 5 minutes, thats the maximum length.

Im a prof actor up here in Canada. (Yes I actually get paid to do acting) and all I can say is demos really help. Idealy though you want something that's been broadcast on television or shot on 35. It's a catch 22 really. Can't be on tv unless youve been on tv. PaPa is right 5 min is the max. These days, I would even go to say 3 min is good.

I can't think of this film as being anything but helpful for the actor (and I mean beyond the acting class). It might not be completely ideal (as people have stated, it's not actual footage of him on broadcast shows), but that doesn't mean that this isn't about the next best thing to being ideal. Let us know if this helps him beyond school.

Great stuff. Looked awesome. You should post that tutorial. I know alot of people who have asked that question before, as well as myself.

more like modeling than acting imo. good camera work. the first few seconds were a bit rough in transition imo, could have been smoother on a couple of em.
