Shooting 4X3 but protecting for 16X9 future broadcast?

Hello... Wondering if any one has any thoughts or info regarding a shoot I am going on tommorrow. I was originally going to use the SDX 900 in 16X9 mode (FRAMING FOR A 4X3 Broadcast), as the producers want to future proof the programming...
I persuaded them to use the DVX 100 as I have own one and have shot tests using the "sqeeze" mode and placed the footage side by side with a native 16X9 sdx footage. The results were excellent considering.....
The trouble is I now realize that they want to edit in 4X3 for the broadcast - but my plan to use the squeeze mode will only work if they use it as 16X9 in a 16X9 editing timebase - otherwise the footage will be anamorphically streched! It will be fine for the future widescreen versions - but we may not have many options for the inmmediate 4X3 need. This is a b-roll shoot and I think that all the other source material is SDX 16X9 ( protected framing for 4X3).... I'll clarify that....

I could shoot in regular 4X3 mode - but then what about when they want to produce a 16X9 version? answers?
thanx in advance...

Uprezzing 4x3 footage in your NLE will produce similiar results to the DVX100's squeeze mode.
So I would shoot 4x3, preserve the 16x9 framing, and use thin line detail.

are you sure aobut that sacksnack?

Because i know for sure that letterbox and squeeze have the same resolution, as in i could take a 4x3 letterbox, open it in a 16x9 project, enlarge it to fit the screen and it would be the same quality as shooting squeeze.

But uprezzing should allow you to go farther than general 16x9 detail and closer to high definition, obviously not the same but closer to that than just regular squeeze resolution.
