Hi Guys !! Can anybody please help, I recieved this reply from Nebtek regarding the
white line problem I am having with my Marshall V-R70P-HDA Monitor can anybody please explain?? (only quoted in part)

Hello Raymond,

We test every unit as soon as it arrives in our shop, and then retest the units before they ship. When we tested your monitor before it shipped to you there was no white line down the side of the unit that we could see. I immediately contacted Marshall as soon as I received your e-mail. I explained to them the problem you were having, and Marshall says that they use a "1 to 1 pixel mapping ratio". If the camera's output has a horizontal offset that is off by one pixel it will show up as a white line along the edge of the monitor. Our suggestion is to check your camera's horizontal offset using a monitor with underscan to see if the problem is in the camera and not the monitor.

The horizontal offset may be adjustable in the camera itself. If it is not... then this monitor, and most others that give you a high definition 1 to 1 image ratio, will always show a white line along the edge of the unit. Marshall concurs with this assessment,

Hi Guys ! I guess what I'm asking is does anybody know if I need to, or can, adjust the horizontal offset on the camera. Personally I don't mind the line along the edge of the monitor once I know its not going to affect the image I'm capturing or is a fault with the monitor itself.

I recently rented an HVX200 and Marshall monitor. For what it's worth, there was no white line visible on the monitor. The only negative with the monitor was the amount of light leakage around the edge of the lcd panel, it was almost like a white vignette frame. I would check with Panasonic and see if the horizontal is off - get it fixed if it is before you shoot anything important.

This is true. But to me, it's not a big deal. The white line, though, sounds like a problem. My original Marshall had a white line flicker every few seconds. I immediately returned it and it was diagnosed as a bad board or something. I was sent a replacement at no charge. I only had to pay for shipping to.

So, I recommend contacting Marshall directly for an exchange. They were pretty good about it with me. I just wish I could remember the the names of the people I spoke with.

Thanks Guys! Rob the guy from Nebtek said their was no problem returning the unit but the problem may be the cameras horizontal offset, he quoted:

"The horizontal offset may be adjustable in the camera itself. If it is not... then this monitor, and most others that give you a high definition 1 to 1 image ratio, will always show a white line along the edge of the unit. Marshall concurs with this assessment"

Any comments on this quote, and on how to check for this horizontal offset and how to adjust it ??. I am shooting an actors workshop in two weeks and need the monitor for critical focusing. I am living in Ireland and won't have the monitor returned before then. Basically if this is going to affect my reorded image I need to be sure it's not the camera before I go and send it back.

Can't you just work around the white line for now? Is it being recorded like that? Evaluate some test clips in an NLE then go from there.
