HVX to 35mm film

Has anyone here seen how HVX footage translates to 35mm film? If so, would you consider shooting a feature with this camera for film release? Is the image good enough to support suspension of disbelief or are there distracting artifacts that would pull the audience out of the action? Thank You for your opinion, Norman

Absolutely. I've seen it projected on a 30 ft. screen. It looked like 35mm.
For ultra-low and low budget feature production, this camera is awesome.

I'm curious if anyone has seen the HVX with a 35mm adapter blown up to film. We're looking into shooting a feature with the M2 and would love to know if there's been an HVX + M2 or similar footage transferred to film and screened.

There have been two or three 35mm blow up tests done (I don't feel like looking up the threads again but you can). These were all done on the 720p setting. Those who saw them said that they looked like pretty good Super 16mm footage. This is more than good enough for me considering 99% of audiences wouldn't flinch at so-so regular 16mm film. Hell, most audiences didn't even flinch at 28 Days later on the XL1 which wasn't half as technically powerful as an HVX200.

Remember that an avarage cinema will only show about 700-800 lines of resolution.

Star wars episod II was shoot with 1440*1080 and chroma 480*1080 it was in post cropped to 1440*812 and chroma 480*812. So a HVX200 720P shown in 16:9 will give you 960*720 and chroma 480*720, not so big difference. And also take in consideration that Ep2 was shown 2,35:1 so the quality against a 16:9 movie would be 1080*812 and chroma 360*812.

Of course more stuff will determine the quality but by resolution the hvx has enoug for a cinama release already in 720P mode.

p.s. 28 days were shot with frame mode on the xl1 with 4:3 ratio. That gave resolution 720*360 and chroma 360*180 (4:2:0) it was then cropped in post for 16:9 or was it 1,85:1. In 16:9 that would create 720*270 and chroma 360*135.

*edit* think i miscalculated the chroma on the xl1 frame movie mode because i dont know how the chroma is affected by the mode but it can max be 360*288 cropped to 360*216 *edit*
