i tried capturing with FCP and the 720 24p @ 60f doesnt look slow enough. what am i doing wrong? i am using an easy setup to capture the footage. should i change something? should i capture as 29.97 like when capturing normal 24p footage and use pulldown with cinema tools? or should i just capture as 23.98?

I presume you are talking about shooting 24p either to P2, Firestore or direct capture to FCP rather than shooting 24pN to P2. Presuming you are shooting 24p 60fos rather than 24pN, do an import P2 as you would normally do. Do NOT check the remove duplicate frames box in FCP 5.1. Then highlight clip in Browser window and apply the Panasonic Frame Rate Converter (I am in a hurry as I write this and don't have the link handy for it but it's easily found). Under your options, choose 23.98 and import into FCP. It should then write a new clip, import into FCP with clip name+(converted). Drop that into a 23.98 timeline and you should have appropriate 60 fps motion.

im pretty sure you dont need to change the setting from 29.97 if you shot 24p. I could be wrong on that one though. As for the slow motion, if you want it to playback, by means of the incamera function, switch it to 24pn, 60FPS. Then record something quickly with movement and playback on deck.....its PRETTY slow. The 24p, 60PFS doesnt do it in camera and I think you need to drag it into FCP first to be able to truly see that function. If I were you i would record 24p, 48FPS, and then go into the timeline after it is set up and slow it down to 50%. In theory this should work, but we know how well theories seem to do lately. Good luck.

Frame Rate Conversion is plug-in, linked from Varicam page. Last I heard, Jan was working on getting it linked to HVX page as well. Can't find the URL at the moment since I'm rushing to check email and posts before Law & Order SVU. Got to watch some TV to take a break from making it.

Now, here is yet another oddity. If I import these clips into a bin within the Browser window, the FRC converter does not work. If the clips are loose within the Browser window, the FRC works perfectly, removing the duplicate frames making the image look exactly like shooting variable frame rate at 224pN to P2 and importing.

This is weird.
