"AUTO OFF UNLOADING LOCK" problem

Does anyone know how I can deal with this problem?
My panasonic DVX100A camera cassette compartment suddenly locked and would not open to release the tape. The following error message in red is permanently flashing on the screen:

"AUTO OFF S REEL LOCK" (followed by)

"AUTO OFF UNLOADING LOCK"

Thanks

This needs to be moved to the DVX "technical" section. As for your problem, I have not heard of that lock up before. PM Barry Green or try a DVXuser search.

Sounds like the tape that was in it lost tension for some reason. Try turning it off, and then hold the eject button in while you turn it back on. If that won't let the door pop open, you will need to take it to a service center. Go to the Panasonic website and look for support at the top, click, click on locate service center and the put in the model number and zip code. That should give you a couple of choices.

Good Luck,

Jan

Thanks guys, for the suggestions. I am trying them out so far, no luck yet.

Andrew, I was thinking this is DVX100 technical foruum. Is it not?

Try to grab both sides of the ejector and give it a little pull (not much). This has happen with my sony before. The grease is probably drying up and needs to be re-lube.

Hi,

Please don't do this, you should send it to a repair facility. The tape has lost its tension and you need to have a service facility get it out of there. You were not in the technical forum initially, you were moved. You started this in the NAB thread.

Best,
Jan

I've done it and ever since my sony has worked fine, but like Jan C. said take it to a repair center, you never know it could be something else.

Actually, I already got the tape out after unscrewing the two small screws on the compartment. However, after it was closed again, the warning signals reappeared and the compartment would not eject even though it is now empty - ie, even with no tape in it.

Hi Jan and thanks for your ever helpful feedback.
I just posted this message in another thread but it seems like a better place here since you are on this one.

My four year old DVX just displayed this or a very similar message after eating it's fisrt tape after 375 perfect hours of recording. I put in another tape and it is working fine. I believe it is time for a complete service and cleaning though.
My partners DVX also just did the same thing last weekend at a shoot in Las Vegas and it will NOT take a tape now. We are looking for a solution. I will check with him tomorrow to get the exact text for the error message.

Also, I will follow your link to find a service center because I KNOW mine needs servicing. I have a plain DVX-100. Are there any ungrades that can be installed when I get it serviced?
Thanks

Hi Randolph,

I think you should take it to a service center and have them check it out. It happened for som reason. Perhaps the load of tapes that you had, who knows, but I would, if I were you, have better peace of mind if I knew it was the tape's fault and not the camera's.

Best,

Jan

Hello again,
The error message on my partner's DVX-100 is:
"Auto Off Loading Lock"
It will load or eject tapes but the tape drive won't run in record or playback with a fresh or previously recorded tape.

I had that problem with mine. Listen to Jan and take it to a repair facility but be ready for a bill when you send it in to the repair center. Mine cost 850 to fix.
