Hi.

She's on order, and now the time for whining over the 720 problem is over, now I'm wondering if anyone have actually solved it.

As the vari-speed functionality is only in the 720 domain, I'll need some upscaling to use this in PAL-Land.

I'm editing in FCP, but I have a couple of XP-boxes laying around, so if they can be put to any use, they'd only be too happy...
:badputer:
I've thought about these solutions:
A software uprez in Raylight.
Can these files be read by Quicktime?

Play the files through the component ot through a Decklink Multibridge Extreme or a Kona - I'd like to stay in the Decklink domain...

Play the files out to an AJ-1200 and do the uprez'ing in the deck - pretty much like a Varicam Workflow. (EXPENSIVE)

What I've ordered is:
The HVX
Sachtler tripod
The panny 17" for monitoring and focus (I hated the LCD and viewfinder!!!)
I plan to record directly to a laptop with FCP studio untill the 720 problem is solved.

I hope this is gonna work.

And BTW Barry, any news on your book?

You might try DVFilm Maker 2.3 for Windows http://dvfilm.com/maker

It can read 720/25pn MXF files (pn only right now) and convert them to quicktimes that
will play back on a Mac. The codec I recommend is Motion JPEG-B
which should play back in real time. Also Blackmagic YUV is another
possibility.

Here is a 720/25pn .mxf file that can be downloaded to Windows and
processed with Maker: http://dvfilm.com/maker/Flare25.exe

Thanks a lot!

Do you want to go to the jpeg-b codec because of generation loss generated when converting to DVCPRO-HD files? Or isn't DVCPRO HD supported on XP Quicktime?

Apple does not have a DVCPROHD codec for Windows, no.
